Religious Intolerance and Military Brutality: The Harrowing Eid Day Incident in Iseyin.

BY; TIJANI AHMAD ADEBAYO

On the Eid day of 2024 in Iseyin, Nigeria, a tragic event unfolded, highlighting the alarming issues of religious discrimination and brutality. A Muslim brother was reportedly attacked by a group of soldiers, allegedly called by a pastor living adjacent to the victim's residence. The incident spiraled into a scene of violence, leaving the victim, some of his wives, and even children beaten and injured. This deeply disturbing act shines a light on the deep-rooted issues of religious prejudice and the alarming misuse of power that has plagued Nigeria in recent times.

The incident reportedly took place on a day of great religious significance for Muslims, Eid al-Adha, a day offering of sacrifice by killing Ram and its likes is done in worshipping Almighty Allah. The family in question was preparing to celebrate this important day in peace when they were brutally assaulted by soldiers who were allegedly called by a Christian pastor residing nearby. The soldiers, acting on religious bias rather than any legitimate concern, broke into the residence and proceeded to physically assault the family members, sparing no one, not even the children.

This act of aggression is a stark reminder of the religious discrimination that persists in many parts of the world today. The Christian pastor's alleged involvement in the incident suggests a deep-seated intolerance and hostility towards Muslims, which unfortunately has become all too common. This sort of bigotry has no place in a civilized society and must be condemned in the strongest terms.

Furthermore, the actions of the soldiers involved in the incident highlight a disturbing trend of military personnel abusing their power. Rather than protecting the citizens they are sworn to serve, these soldiers reportedly acted on their prejudices, taking the law into their own hands and brutalizing innocent people. Such behavior not only tarnishes the reputation of the military but also undermines the trust citizens have in their protectors.

This tragic incident serves as a wake-up call for all of us. It reminds us that we must remain vigilant in the face of religious discrimination and abuse of power. We must stand together and condemn such acts of violence, advocating for the rights and dignity of every individual, regardless of their religious affiliation.

Religious tolerance is a cornerstone of any peaceful and progressive society. We must strive to cultivate understanding and respect for all religions, fostering an environment where people of different faiths can coexist in harmony. Simultaneously, we must hold those in positions of power accountable for their actions, ensuring that they act responsibly and impartially in the discharge of their duties.

The tragic incident in Iseyin on Eid day 2024 is a grim reminder of the work that still needs to be done to eradicate religious discrimination and ensure the responsible use of power. We must learn from this tragedy and commit ourselves to building a world where people of all faiths can live together in peace and security. Only then can we truly honor the victims of this senseless act of violence. However respective and concerned authorities are hereby signaled to act and decide on this, providing relevant remedies to the victims and incurring justice to the society as Honorable justice Chucwudifu oputa JSC as he then was duely said that; "justice is not one way traffic neither it's a two way traffic but a three way; Justice to the victim, the accused and the state". Actions are hereby called to be made in deterring such tragic occurrence from the society and discrimination whether by religion or ethnic should be completely demolished as we've all vowed to live in unity and harmony irrespective of ethnics or religion, Nigeria is our dear nation.
