Taking care of pigs involves more than just feeding and watering them. It's important to keep their living area, called a pig pen, clean to keep them healthy and happy. Whether you choose to do the cleaning daily, weekly, and doing a deep clean monthly, you can make sure their living space stays clean and comfortable. This helps prevent diseases and makes your pigs environment better for them to live in.

Why Cleaning Your Pig Pen is Important?

Pigs can be messy animals. They root around and go to the bathroom in their pen, which can make it dirty quickly. If you don't clean it regularly, bacteria can build up and make your pigs sick.

How Often Should You Clean Your Pig Pen?

1. Every day, you should check the pen for any spots where pigs have gone to the bathroom. Remove these spots and add more bedding like straw or sawdust if needed. This helps keep the pen cleaner between deeper cleanings.

2. Once a week, you should do a more thorough cleaning. Take out all the old bedding and scrub the pen with soap and water. Then, put in fresh bedding to keep it clean and comfortable for your pigs.

3. About once a month, it's a good idea to do a really thorough cleaning. Take all the pigs out of the pen temporarily. Scrub down all the walls and floor with a disinfectant to kill any germs. After that, put in new bedding material so it stays fresh.
