Bandits, in the early hours of Monday, invaded the Tudun-Jega area of Birnin-Gwari town, in the Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State and killed one resident.

The bandits, who struck around 2 am, also infiltrated the Ungwan Amir and part of Kagangi street, all in Birnin-Gwari and kidnapped scores of residents.

A community leader, Alhaji Zubair Abdurra’uf Idris, a title holder of Danmasani, in the Birnin-Gwari Emirate Council, also reported that three farmers were killed in another attack at the Dogon Dawa District, Tudun Wada, on Friday.

This brings to four, the number of those killed by bandits in the Birnin-Gwari general areas between Friday and Monday.

Idris noted that the attack, which left three farmers dead, was the second in four days of bandits’ incursion into Birnin-Gwari town.

He called on the governor to assist in deploying more security agents to fortify the troubled Birnin-Gwari general area.

“In the early hours of today, precisely around 2.00 am, bandits stormed the Tudun-Jega area in the heart of Birnin-Gwari town. Also, they infiltrated Unguwar Amir and part of Kakangi Street (near Jarmai house).

“One person was killed and a family of one Shehu (Shagari) Adamu Dattijo, comprising his wife and children were abducted despite the swift response by security forces.

“In a separate attack on Friday, three farmers were killed at Dogon Dawa District. Governor Uba Sani, this is the second time in four days bandits would make their way into Birnin-Gwari town due to porous corridors within the metropolis,” he said.


In the letter which was obtained by The PUNCH, the group stressed the need for the governor to urgently deploy security personnel, especially the Mobile Police Counter Terrorism Squad in the area.

The open letter is titled: “Security situation in Birnin-Gwari and the need for deployment of Mobile Police Counter Terrorism Squad.”

The letter read in part: “Excellency Sir, as you might be aware, there was a security incursion into Birnin-Gwari town in the early hours of today (Friday).

“The bandits have constantly been on parole on the Dadinkowa, Tudunwada and Bagoma axis of the metropolis.

“Also, security breaches are recorded in Kakangi District, Saulawa, Kuyello, Unguwar Danko and many others, almost daily.

“After a careful review of last night’s incident, the elders and stakeholders are calling for your swift actions and deployment of the Police Mobile Counter-Terrorism Squad to Birnin-Gwari, allocated by the IGP to Kaduna State, to fortify security in distressed areas in Birnin-Gwari town and other security threat areas in the whole local government area.”

There was no official reaction from the state government or the state police command.

When contacted on the telephone, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, neither returned calls put through to him nor responded to the text message.
