Stop comparing Enugu to Lagos. Lagos State sits on the Atlantic Ocean while the excessive coal deposit and hilly topography of Enugu absorbs rain water minutes after a downpour.

While that may seem as a benefit, it is the same reason why the residents of Enugu town don't enjoy year-round water supply to their overhead reservoirs. Towards the end of the year, people depend on water board or start buying water from private suppliers.

This has nothing to do with housing...
We have seen floods in Abuja too

Why not build artificial flood channels instead of demolishing? There's always a better solution if you think outside the box.

Oga there's something I need to bring to your notice just in case u don't know. THOSE GUYS CLEARING GUTTERS, I MEAN THE ONES YOU APPOINT TO REMOVE THE SAND FROM THE GUTTERS. IS IT THAT THEY ARE STUPID OR ITS ON PURPOSE THAT THEY PACK THE SAND FROM THE GUTTERS AND LEAVE IT BY THE ROAD SIDE TO CAUSE TRAFFIC THEN WHEN IT RAINS THE SAME SAND GOES BACK TO THE GUTTERS. WHAT STOPS THEM FROM MOVING THE SAND IMMEDIATELY ITS REMOVED FROM THE GUTTERS INTO AN ALREADY WAITING TRUCK. HUUM NA WA O.

Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, please concentrate on the following areas:

1.) Amuwo Odofin / Festac / Ajegunle

2.) Ago Palace / Okota

3.) Ajao Estate

4.) Egbeda / Igando

5.) Omole Phase 1 - Ojodu

These areas are where the criminals, kidnappers, armed-robbers, terrorists & Cocaine-Traffickers who have infiltrated our land and now plotting to hijack it from us like they did in Portharcourt are clustered.

Then after some weeks, you can now beam your searchlight on Aspamda, Ladipo, Computer Village and Alaba Markets.

I did not mention anybody’s tribe or ethnicity, therefore any riff-raff that quotes me to type rubbish.

Desperate and poor people are easy to know.Always playing ethnic card.

Find work to do instead of hating and spewing nonsense. Igbos are blessed. No amount of intimidation can cow their spirit.

Whereas you engage in land speculation for survival, Igbo man transverse the whole universe for business opportunities.

Find something useful to do than hating ane insulting.

Lagos flooding is as much a problem of topography as it is of inadequate or poor planning

The entire Lekki, Parkview, Ilubirin, Banana Island, Eko Atlantic were all built on land reclaimed from the ocean

No one can cheat nature

Re: ‘many Structures Will Go Down’, Lagos Blows Hot Over Flood by Jephyard(m): 11:02pm On Jul 03
Lagos is a misplace city. The government of Lagos are running it as if they are in a village. Oshodi and Iyana-Oworo was flooded this morning.

The island is the worst. Government presence there is 20%. Most of the inner road built from Lekki Phase downward are done by the residents living in that axis. Most time which are poorly done due to meager finance and hiring engineers who doesn't understand what it takes to build a road in that environment.

Will I blame them? NO! Afterall the local government of eti-osa is death. In short local government has been rendered useless by state government.

Lagos used to be a model city but from what I can see I do not wish any state to copy Lagos kind of city where there is no street light, no pipe-borne water (Water Corporation is dead, and then still dey collect salaries), public transport is a mess with rickety buses meant for the museum playing the road, tout is everywhere including highbrow places, no visible road sign, no national park or green belt, no trees just concrete everywhere you turn to, etc too many to mention.

It just a mess. You can't even use most of the pedestrian bridges in the state because you are either being scared of being robbed or you find shit (Faeces), everywhere just dey smell. Haba nah. The government should do something. We are tired.

God will punish anyone that will ask me to leave the state because I complained. Don't you like good things. Don't you want the state to be well runn and balance other than this messed we find ourselves. No one is more lagosian than anyone here. It's because we want better we keep talking till it gets to the right quarters to do more. We all want a better Lagos.

People wey never build house go just dey talk Cho Cho Cho.

What have they built on the ones they pulled down?

Did they build any new drainage on the ones?.

Apart from pulling down houses, what is Lagos state using the high IGR for?. Show me any major infrastructure they have built to tackle this issue since 10yrs.

Absolutely nothing!!!.

A story of if education is expensive try ignorance.

The commissioner, if knowledgeable should consult before demolishment.
The Netherlands, Italy and some European countries live with water, there are levels to this. A square peg in a square hole will save Lagos state.

It’s time to revisit the blue print.
Lagos needs drains the side of a full grown man, as well as buffers that can hold millions of litters of water.
The commissioner can make artificial lakes that would pose as reservoirs and also site attraction.

When the state was generating funds from omonile, they didn’t think right then. The state government sold sidewalks, parks etc.

Lastly, when everyone is ready for the discussion of the environmental impact of Eko Atlantic then the solution will begin.

Where were you when they were buying those properties? Your forebears sold the lands, right? Or did they take it from them by conquest? Igbos have seen worse in Nigeria and will always bounce back. Even if you take all these properties from them, in 50 years time, your children will sell it back to them.

all the ones they have been demolishing since last year, why isn’t the water flowing?
Perhaps those demolitions were politically motivated, and those structures weren’t actually sitting on water ways.
I’m sure they are still going to toe the same path, destroying what they are not supposed to destroy in the guise of clearing the water ways.

Useless fellows in power and their brainless supporters!

Lagos State should visit Uyo City & see how drainage is done, not these one-inch gutters u hv esp at Lekki & VI!

Now, on the matta taata: Lagos should not exploit the flood to target people from a particular region in their land reclamation drive! We know many houses of APC Cronies at drainage channels dat the govt did not, & may Neva 'TOUCH'!

The most important thing for now is to build more sewers.....Those shallow drainages won't work. Most of them should be overhauled.

Re: ‘many Structures Will Go Down’, Lagos Blows Hot Over Flood by travelzcruix: 3:50am On Jul 04
During my days in sec school, I still remember my geography teacher strongly condemning land reclaimation of any kind, worse off is from water.Except it's the business of approving buildings on reclaimed lands from water and later coming to destroy them. The rethoric everytime there is flooding should be treated from the root cause. Why give approval for any form of construction on reclaimed land from water without putting in the infrastructure for canal property development first.? No matter the canal you build, water must have it's way. That not withstanding building on canals if done properly like it's done in Italy and Vietnam with the right development and investing in the infrastructure required will be beneficial on the long run.

Lagos should widen and build more drainage collecting channels. In some parts of Lagos, you will see big waterways and channels that collects drainage waters not built hence encouraging blockage. If it is well built with concrete, water will flow easily. For example since a big underground water channel was built in ejigbo, the ejigbo flooding stopped. You also can't see flooding inside festac because of the underground drainage. Lagos has the capacity to do more and bring these floodings to minimal situations. Not only about demolishing houses. if all channels and waterways are cleaned, water will flow easily hence less flood. A task force that compels landlords to pay certain fees where existing street gutters are not cleaned should also help to make discharging to waterways much easier and quick.

Wahab is doing well but should do more on clearing / construction of waterways and big water collecting channels. When water flows easily, flooding won't pesist.
Land reclaiming is also part of all of this. We should ask, where did the water chased out for building eco Atlantic go to and other reclaimed land. It goes to lower land part of lekki hence slow flow of water after the rain.
