The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is in mourning after one of its members tragically committed suicide on Monday at his residence in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The deceased, a male of class 5 of the EFCC Academy’s Course 5, has not been publicly named as of Wednesday morning. Details of how the suicide occurred and the exact location of his Abuja home, where the incident occurred remain unclear.

This is not the first time an EFCC operative is suspected of committing suicide. In 2019, the Edo State Police Command investigated the death of Williams Oyibogare, an EFCC operative who was found with a bottle of Sniper and a suicide allegedly note on his phone.

The EFCC is currently looking into range of factors that could have caused the alleged suicide, including possible mental health issues and family difficulties. The police are awaiting results of the autopsy before commenting further on the matter.

The tragic loss has left the EFCC grieving, with the commission vowing to probe the circumstances surrounding the death of one of its own.
