Similarity In Naming Pattern Igbo Ibibio by Abagworo(m): 11:45am On Nov 30, 2011
It seems that despite the very obvious differences between Igbo and Ibibio, their naming pattern seems too similar to be mere coincidence.

I have observed this from the little I know like village names and personal names.

Eno Abasi is same as Onyinye Chukwu

Eka Ette is same as Nne Nna.

The suffix and prefix are exactly same. Eno and Onyinye means gift while Chukwu and Abasi mean
God. Eka and Nne mean mother while Ette and Nna mean father.

Names of most Igbo towns start with Umu which means children while most Ibibio towns start with Ikot which is also children.

Ikot-Chukwu = Umu Chukwu=Ikot Abasi.

I'll like to know more about this from those that can speak both Igbo and Ibibio-Efik.

Ikot means 'farm' in Ibibio according to what a friend told me.

You are partly right as it has dual meaning.

Either "people of" or "bush"

I've always thought Okon in ibibio/efik is the same as okonkwo in igbo.
