Osinbajo is a lawyer. He cannot do anything.
If I ever become the president of Nigeria, I will hire an American economist as my coordinator of the economy. Give him terms of service, pay him good salary and give him targets.

There's a reason why the most successful Nigerian companies are run by foreigners.
Such a person won't have any vested interests and will go against evil men destroying Nigeria's economy. If he doesn't meet my expectations, I will sack him and send him back to his country.

You still have a lot of consciousness elevation to do if you think it's wise to invite a coloniser to sort out an African issue.

If you like gather the best doctors from all around the world for consultation, but if at least a patient suffering from symptoms of that ailment is not invited for proper diagnosis, how do you know the core cause of the ailment, they have to do the needful or may end up treating symptoms as usual.

Wrong analogy bro. Aside asking patients for symptoms, no trained doctor or researcher seeks treatment advice from those who are ill.

At the height of Covid, scientists, specialist doctors, Pharmacologists and researchers came to the forefront in the searce for a vaccine. Not patients.

Because the Government is seeking solution for what ails the common man does not mean the common man has to be involved in the search for solutions he has no skills, expertise or experience to deliberate on.

It is the way it is worldwide. Government do not seek economic advice from non-experts or those not direct stakeholders in the creation of economic solutions.

The opinion of ordinary Nigerians is important and should be respected , in the right context, but cannot be sought when a government is seeking technocratic economic advice.

American economist will only adopt the economy system of America which cannot work for Nigeria economy. The simple solution to Nigeria economic which many economists has advised the Nigeria government to adopt is reduction in government income in which they are not ready to abide with because of their selfish interest

Reducing government salary is not the solution..stop deceiving yourself

I don't need to join anyone to know that managing and growing the economy is the biggest task before any political leader anywhere in the world. There are no exceptions.

I think you need to rid yourself of that master-slave concept. The world is increasingly getting globalised. Nigerians are leaving this country in search of opportunities elsewhere and Asians are sleeping in the Nigerian embassies in their countries just to come to Nigeria to work because Nigerian companies pay them better than their own companies.

If our people are not ready to do the job, I will source experts from elsewhere to get it done. Corruption and vested interests have reduced Nigeria to nothing.

These are the people that holds the economy of this country once they are ready to let masses breathe then we are fine. Tinubu knows what he is doing better than previous governments. How can you exempt the people that holds your economy future in making contributions. They determines prices of many items, finance and businesses in this country so it a very good strategy.

Osibanjo did it in just 48 hours (2days) when he acted fully as president. What Tinubu fails to achieve for over a year still counting was achieved in just 2days of Osibanjo as acting president when his principal was on medical trip to UK. READ MORE BELOW

Nigeria in 2024 is worse than Nigeria in 2017 when Osibanjo was acting present, the value of the Naira was stronger, and Buhari APC was blocked from bankrupting the country by the PDP-controlled Senate. Today, Nigeria owes $100 billion and exports less than 1.3 barrels per day of oil.

Osinbanjo's failure was being vice president of Buhari for 8 years , he is complicit in Nigeria current state.

Sir, it is not wise in this age of globalisation and the need for nations to pragmatically work with the best, wherever the best comes from, to talk of 'Colonisers'.

Consultants and appointees never become the boss of hands-on and solutions-driven employers.

It is actually personally interesting to me you make this point about fear of the 'colonialist' many Africans harbour.

I have always been of the opinion that there is nothing wrong with even partnering with an enemy who has knowledge or services you need as long as you take charge of the parameters of engagement to get what you want out of any dealings with them.

That is what African leaders fail to do leading to African nations always losing out in trade, economic and partnership negotiations with the 'colonisers'.

The average African then interpret that failure of our leaders against Western partners to mean those folks are wicked and evil without understanding it is our leaders who are corrupt, weak and incompetent that are letting us down.

Vice Presidency (2015–2023)

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and President Buhari

First Term (2015–2019)
Tenure

Acting President

President Muhammadu Buhari wrote a written declaration on 9 May 2017 to the president of the senate and house of representatives on his decision to embark on a medical trip; the letter was read that day at a plenary assembly of both the senate and the house of representatives. The acting presidency was conferred upon Vice president Osinbajo during President Buhari's medical leave.[21][22]

Second Term (2019–2023)

Tenure

On 29 May 2019, Professor Yemi Osinbajo took his oath of office to begin his second term at Eagle Square in the capital of Abuja.[27][28]

Following the federal government's decision to close the nation's land borders in October 2019, Osinbajo explained that the government did so to gain the attention of other nations to the importance of policing the borders. He claimed that China and other nations were smuggling in products, including agricultural ones, undermining the Nigerian economy and threatening Nigerian agriculture. By closing the borders, Osinbajo claimed that the government was helping protect the economy and Nigeria's producers and farmers.[29]

On 31 March 2020, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Vice president Osinbajo to chair an economic sustainability committee. The aim of the committee is to develop measures to cushion the effect of the coronavirus and eventually reposition the Nigerian economy.[31][32]

Medicine after death; nothing will come out of this collection of politicians and businessmen.
The committee should have included a good number of independent, competent economists and finance experts who could be bold to tell the president when his policies are wrong.
Apart from Bismark Rewane, I cannot see notable economists or finance experts in the team.
The businessmen will only promote and support policies that will make them richer.

Osinbanjo was never the problem..

Buhari was.

I wrote off the economy within 30 days of his assumption of office. I knew he'd ruin it.

Within 3 months, there was severe forex scarcity due to a foreign exchange policy he introduced.

The man was a disaster. Had he won the election in 1999, by now, the country would be owing over $100bn in debt.
