Electricity bill for a university depends on usage. We should not be a socialist state where everyone expects the government to put food on their table.

Any university that is not capable of generating its own electricity is not fit to be called a university

The Govt is bent on increasing tariff not minding the attendant consequences. How can hospitals and higher schools survive the hike of the energy tariff ..? Many things will tumble from the look of things . They better think well .. reposition the energy sector to a stable situation before increasing any tarrif .

Solar is the way forward.

Buhari government did multi million naira solar farm for five universities during his tenure, what is the situation today, almost all of them are in comatose. One that i personally attend the funfare when Osinbajo commission it stopped working just after two years to the extent they start budgeting money to buy disel for charging the solar batteries.

Burning the midnight oil comes to mind.

As if the universities are useful. They should close down and let everybody rest.

Sadly, same Nigerian Professors will try and help callous politicians rig the next elections 😔💔💔

Reverse means giving subsidies on top the already subsidized education which is not sustainable.

Rather than returning electricity subsidies plaqued with corruption, the FG should provide the alternative renewable energy project in the other universities or those universities creatively solve their energy problems. They are the eggheads and solving problems is their core mandate.

Rent-seeking landed us in this economic problems. People will come online to loaf around after enjoying subsidies on petrol, electricity, food , education and health. How can such a system birth innovation and deep mental thinking ? Provide security, manage population growth, take away or reduce the subsidies and give tax incentives, student loan,etc to unleash our creativity.

Corruption and zero accountability landed us in this economic problems. If we had established strong institutions instead of strong corrupt men we'll be competing with Dubai given our resources.

Its still corruption that the military used as an excuse to intervene into politics.
Let's stop putting the blame on the subsidies on critical sectors that allays the hardship of the masses but blame those who superintend the way the subsidies were carried out through perennial looting from one generation of political criminals to another.

Some of you analyse the issues without looking at the root causes if the problems which is at a super high level and running at government on all levels. Also unchecked corruption which has seen our corrupt officials have more mansions in Dubai than any country bar India and Europe's biggest banks stuffed with looted monies from our commonwealth while they still borrow more to re-loot again
Saudi Arabia subsidises almost everything as a oil producing country like us . Do you know for instance, the same yam that's produced in Nigeria you buy for 3k per tuber here can be gotten cheaper when exported to Saudi Arabia? That's the extent of food subsidy there. Dairy products is even subsidized to over 50% there.
