Unknown ancestry and/or background doesn't stop anyone competing anywhere. Even if he is an orphan that grew up in the streets, as long as he passes the minimum education and age requirements, he has a right to contest so allowed him on that.

Installing a president doesn't reside with any region.
The north understands this game, this is a game SE never understands.
The north will not vote one candidate as a single bloc, that's where it needs the south, the closest south it can easily align with is SW.
From the look of things, SW has been bringing the north to power, OBJ brought Yar'adua, Tinubu brought Buhari, understand the game, look at it logically.
