The Nigerian police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, has arrested a man seen at the top of a radio mast trying to commit suicide in Abuja, on Monday morning, who is identified as Shuaibu Yushau.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that the man on Monday morning was seen at the top of the mast trying to commit suicide in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.

This was seen in a video as a suicide note left behind by the man was also found.

Relevant agencies were deployed to the scene to rescue him.

The rescue operation was carried out by the Fire Service, National Emergency Management Agency and Federal Capital Territory officials.

However, Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer, FCT command in a statement on Monday evening said the suspect was presently in police custody and in a stable condition.

Following a distress call from concerned citizens about a young man who climbed a very high mast with a placard at ASO Radio in Katampe at about 09:10am, the operatives of the FCT Police Command swiftly mobilised to the location.

"With much professional persuasions from the police operatives, the man later identified as Shuaibu Alhaji Yushau was prevented from taking his own life. He claimed to have been observing the mast for about a week before deciding to climb it. Suspect is presently in police custody and in a stable condition.

"Further development will be communicated in due course," she added.

The situation in the country now is worse than ever. Now I see well dressed people begging for money and food on the street. You may see them as lazy people, but they are not. The pressure is just too much

If he's an Igbo guy or carry Igbo name, some tribalistic idiots on nairaland and stupid Bayo Onanuga will say he's an obedient. Everybody should just forget about Nigeria because the country can never get better.

In other places, support and counselling would definitely be arranged for the man to get his life back on track.

I’m not surprised, because even LASG, that seems more enlightened than others, has been prosecuting vulnerable people for attempting to commit suicide.

Shey these are the products of feminism, I expected to see a man with no arms no eyes. What I see here is a man who has fallen with the flows of modern Life. U need to be this or that, before you are considered successful. Our ancestors knew one thing for sure that adversities was the only way to keep our species going. Even the scripture gives vivid examples of unimaginable torments faced even by God's annointed.
Sucide as a way to cry out or get attention is baseless. Pick up yourself, because nobody is coming to save u.

The man is expressing himself in his own little way based on his knowledge. The Government and those in authority need to be proactive in taking actions that will make things easier for a common man. Otherwise, a day will come when everybody will come out against the Government I'm not sure we have sufficient correctional centres to accommodate all Nigerians. Bigger than Endsars is coming. He that is dead is never afraid of guns. My candid advice is that the Government takes steps to make things easier. I pray that God helps our leaders to take the right steps and actions in Jesus name, Amen.
