Osun State Governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, has said 170 millennium schools being constructed by his administration will be named after people that died during the struggle to reclaim his mandate.

Aregbesola also said people, who were victimised and brutalised during his struggle to reclaim his mandate would also have some of the schools named after them.

Speaking at a ceremony organised to honour those that died and those that were victimised, Aregbesola, on Tuesday, in Osogbo, the governor said the honour for the victims was well deserved.

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babtunde Fashola, who was present at the ceremony held at Centre for Black Culture and International Understanding, Osogbo, said the “sacrifice of those that lost their lives or were incarcerated will not be in vain.”

Many of the families and relatives of the victims wept openly when the governor announced that the schools would be named after those killed and those that were brutalised.

Aregebsola alleged that the administration of former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola unleashed terror on members of the Action Congress of Nigeria and non members of the party in the bid to remain in office.

He said, “The most hideous brutality was visited on our people by that regime. In this instance, there was no discrimination. From the day of election, mobile policemen, the army and sundry political thugs invaded our cities of Igbajo, Osogbo, Ilesa, Ile-Ife, Iragbiji, Ikirun, Iwo, Ede, Ijebu-Jesa, Ejigbo, and other places.

“They shot, raped, arrested, harassed and flogged our people and looted their property. Gbenga Kayode, Abraham Jato, Sogo Adekoya, Chief Lawal Adesina, Mr. Samson Olarewaju, Saheed Adebiyi and Alhaja Taibat Orija Jeunkogbadun were all brutally killed by the PDP in the futile bid to silence our people, trample on their democratic rights and forcibly take away their mandate.

“Others were Lamidi Eesade, Pastor Gbenga Obalola, Ayo Oni, Saheed Adeniyi, and Taju Nasiru. Some of these people were not even politicians. Pastor Obalola, for instance, was going to his church when he was accosted by soldiers and shot in the face.

“Chief Ade Komolafe, a frontline industrialist, was beaten to death in a filling station in Ilesa, by Ibukun Fadipe, a former Chairman of Ilesa-West Local Government.”
