U must always see things with your bitter mind.

You are a pessimist. There are many students in Nigeria that the money will help.

He did say his salary was $86k(ish) out of school and does extra work at weekends to even stretch it over 100k. Go back and re-read his post.

Sir, no entry level employee gets 86k$ after tax,
Examine what people say to the reality on ground, don't just believe people online!
You just don't leave school and start earning 86k

You don't even know how much loan he took. He said he paid it off, and that is his truth.
Entry level employees do get more than 86k after tax depending on the job or company.

Gov Adeleke is from a rich home. He was born with a silver spoon and his own kids were born with a silver spoon..Their dad was a politician in the 1st republic. His brother was a governor, another brother a billionaire, and he himself a senator and now a governor. Baba has lost touch with reality. He doesn't know what the average Nigerian kids go through to make it through universities.

Chairman. During that era, the value of our currency was same with that of UK. People were even reverse japa-ing during that era. Times have changed, and Nigeria is no UAE or Cuba. Even though our political office holders are crooks. Alot of them can conveniently help so many students through universities from their constituency money and allocation, but greed won't let them.

Although, I have a friend that's a legislative member in LASG. He is doing is best by sponsoring some students in university and even buying JAMB forms for all students trying to gain admission in his legislative constituent. Imagine if others were like him.

Student loans should be jointly guaranteed by the states and the FG.
The idea that the FG will plunge anyone into debt is moot because no one should be compelled to take a loan he cannot afford to repay.
Re: Adeleke Warns FG Against Using Loans As Debt Trap For Students by RhinoChest: 7:57pm On Jul 09
I like this scheme and student should use it to fund their academic pursuit or training.

Because we have shortages of doctors and nurses, I would want FG to exclude medical students and trainee nurses from paying back.

I would also exclude trainee students in Maths and sciences from paying, so we flood our schools with lots of science teachers. More science teachers mean more science students to teach, making us compete globally in that sphere.

Wrong answer, everybody else thought it was a bad idea except Awo and a few, of course Awo could have decided on a loan and everyone would have thought it was dandy, like you if u were in that era,

I get your point but it will be discriminatory given the fact that this is not a grant but a loan.

Americans from the 90s and 2000s are still owing student loans. That thing will trap you down.

You can't begin to compare the two systems at all. American education is probably the most expensive in the world, even when you consider the high standard of living. How much are fees in the average federal or State university in Nigeria? Probably an average of 100k per session. The average graduate in a white-collar profession makes an average of 200k. They should be able to pay this easily. Furthermore, these loans, unlike the American ones which are issued by private providers, are non-interest bearing.
Re: Adeleke Warns FG Against Using Loans As Debt Trap For Students by ElSudani: 8:07pm On Jul 09
Osun state can guarantee the loans for Osun students up to 40% at least.
That is far better than putting all the burden on the FG.

abeg just call the loan POVERTY ALLEVIATION SCHEME and be merry... in this economy, any money dashed will help the ones out there with financial difficulties. let some of the loot go to the people jare!

In modern societies, the money is not sent directly to the recipient. It is given through the school. You have it on your account digitally, then you can pay school fees with it, and if there’s money remaining afterwards and no other billsyou owe for the semester, the remaining can be transferred to your account for personal upkeep

It’s not discriminatory. We badly need doctors and they decide whether I’m alive to type on Nairaland or dead! Most of them have Japa. If we offer medical students N5 million annually, and nurses N2.5 million annually per semester, we will have enough to go round. We can mandate they spend 3 -5 years before they Japa.

We should start using incentives to find solutions to our problems.

Also, we need lots of engineers and scientists.

Kudos to the FG for taking steps to provide affordable education through loans. Let's not forget that this is a longterm investment in our future leaders.

B4 u give out a loan u must have an idea or be sure of the process and path the loan can be paid and when.

For students then u must be sure they will get jobs to pay back the loans and how and when the government will make the deductions.

Npower was a failure and discontinued and this is is another rushed policy.

He should pay for them now.. Nonsense talk. Higher institutions are for adult; people old enough to take a decision and take responsibility for their decision.

The thing is govt. cannot expect repayment yo commence until the student graduates and secure a means of living. However, once money starts flowing into the person's account then govt should go all out to ensure repayment.
