Importation should be the least of problems for Ibrahim!
What the association should be fighting or demanding from the FG is a conducive environment for local production like effective policing, stable energy, accessible roads from rural to urban areas etc

The government is about to crush their food hoarding cartel. That's why this one has been mandated to wail.

Give the local farmers access to a good road network, soldiers and police to stand watch while they farm and harvest, lower the cost of petrol and AGO, or even transportation, and marry 24 virgins to appease their avarice, their greediness will make them to shortchange Nigerians. I will overlook this administration's incompetence if they allow food imports.

They should have known this before "wickeding" Nigerians. The ones that will mostly be affected are the wicked and heartless middlemen with warehouses where they hoard everything, mopping up the markets so they can control prices. Some of these middlemen are farmers also. The ones who can access huge capital to farm and then hoard the produce in warehouses so they can export 95% of it and sell the remaining 5% at ultra expensive rates. People like OBJ. They get grants and loans from the country only to go feed other nations with our money.

Greedy Nigerian farmers. If you blame the rise of foodstuffs on transportation, what about 4 cups of garri for 1000 in the village. Upon say na there they make production
You are very correct, some weeks ago I traveled to a village outside Lagos for Sallah hoping to meet foodstuff cheaper, to my surprise is even more expensive over there than Lagos.

I was discussing with the bike guy that carried me during my visit to the village about high cost of food in their village and he told me that he also planted okro and he has calculated the amount he will cash out from the farm, it is then that I know the problem is not only about transport and bad roads, the farmers have increased their prices because of scarcity but if the food is enough in the market, farmers will not increase the prices anyhow.

If overall cost of imported food is cheaper than locally grown, then something is wrong somewhere.i support easing taxes on imported food. However,i also support government funding farmers either by subsidy in fertilizer procurement or funding for purchase of mechanised farming equipments. Also, insecurity is a major problem as no one is able to fully concentrate on farm in northern Nigeria.

What is actually exacerbating hike in food stuff price is several merchants are engaged in food exportation to Niger and Barkinafaso because it's more profitable there due to Seifa. Grains exportation should banned in order to crash the domestic price.

Tinubu is grasping at straws. He is seeking for any political goal to score as all his policies has failed Nigerians. He is trying to experiment if importation of rice and wheat will reduce hunger in short term, so he can atleast win something. But it's clear that's another ill-informed decision which will cause more anguish. The Lagos Fraudster politician, who appropriated Nigerians effort in Lagos as his own achievement, has failed to achieve anything positive since his ascendancy into power.

I am really curious as to how tax/import duty relieve on food importation will cause anguish ...

You are right but give it a second thought. Won't it be nice for government to subside farm tools, fertilizer and agriculture products instead of importation?

Which gain? Someone getting richer at the expense of the poor masses. We produce rice locally but the price is in competition with foreign imported rice.

Nigerians are greedy, we are our own problems.

Food should be imported as soon as possible to avert the forthcoming short down of Nigeria.

Bad policy must end.

Oga, there is no where in the world where food is not imported to augment local products. Besides, Nigerians are too unethical and wicked to be left to control prices like these people have been doing for 9 years now. The scarcity of food in Nigeria is man made and political in undertones.
I am confused
Can you break it down?

It will not. You people should compete. 1 million people can't be running over food that is just sufficient for 200k people. This is the reason for inflation.
the problem is they can't even compete.. Who will leave neat n cheap imported rice for a local expensive rice full of stone... Zero quality control....

Self sufficiency in food production is most often fuelled by national pride rather than sound economics.

Nigeria for instance has no competitive or comparative advantage in rice production. That was why the nation was a massive importer of it.
The imported rice would always be cheaper.

In order to encourage the production of rice locally, the government placed high protective walls, which now made imported rice more expensive than locally produced rice. So, demand for locally produced rice soar and this encouraged farmers to produce rice.

Nigerians are now made to pay a premium for locally made rice.

This is how the self sufficiency goal has made a lot of locally produced food more expensive

Nigerians truly amaze me because you can see and feel the results of a stupid policy BUT you're still trying to make it make sense. If Nigerian farmers were meeting demand, would prices be at an all-time high? Buhari started this stupidity and BAT has doubled down on it whilst people cannot afford food.
