Yes, part of lawyers job is enforcement. What the barrister who took the case to court back then need to do is to make sure he go back to the court and seek for enforcement of the judgement except if it had been appealed before now

Sanwo-Olu should make public waste collection more effective rather than resorting to gimmicks.

He should also consider building underground canals/drainages across strategic locations to reduce the effect of flood.

Environmental sanitation solved nothing during the 32 or so years that it was in place. It will not solve anything now.

Underground canals in Lagos cannot work. It will be choked with dirt and waste in less than 3 months. Underground canals work best in environments where most of the landscape is covered with concrete-paved floors and the people do not dumb wastes into drainage channels.

Good initiative being bought back but the governor should make several changes this time:

1) An hour before the end of environmental, every truck that carries waste should be out to collect all the refuse of Lagosians.

2) There should be sweepers across the state once the environmental finishes to sweep all remaining waste still left on the street.

3) Police and neighbourhood task office should use the β€œ no vehicular movement β€œ period to practice and rehearse emergency training procedure across the states.

By now, we should have waste recycling in Lagos; where plastics, papers, glass and metals get recycled, and what can’t be recycled is incinerated and used to produce electricity.

Also, most of our gutters should be closed and properly connected to various canals across the state.

Kudos to the governor for his proactive effort!!

God bless Lagos!!

It was never cancelled!

Every Thursday in Lagos is sanitation, shops and markets don't open till after 10am.

Enforcement and fines for defaulters is what the government should look into!

And still it won't solve the problem of flooding in Lagos, the should leave their evil tribalistic politics aside and discuss the solution with the LP candidate, they should stop sand-filling lowlands which serve as natural reservoir for ocean overflow and flooding!

The so called water channel they have been building cannot take water out to the ocean during flooding, rather it will be used by the ocean to flood the highlands faster.

Rubbish and senseless APC RONU

I did not bother to read the article. I find it irritating for any city to have a day reserved for sanitation. Anything that would disrupt economic activity is deplorable to me. What happened to cleaning every day? Or do you know any global city with a day reserved each month for cleaning?

The one they have in the market every Thursday is what, shutting businesses again in this hard time is pure insensitivity. Their own duties, neglected. Shops, houses, mechanic villages are springing up where gutters are. People will pack refuse and leave by gutter to be washed back by rain. If LAWMA and refuse collections are effective, we don't need to shut the bad economy again. APC, let the people smile. grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin kiss cry cry cry

Environmental sanitation is actually very important in a state like Lagos. You made a very good point that the waste gathered by the road ride should be collected by LAWMA, which is very correct, in fact it's LAWMA's inefficiency that makes the sanitation necessary... Normally the govt should be the ones clearing the gutters and canals... but LAWMA is obviously inept.

Re: Lagos To Resume Monthly Sanitation Exercise 7 Years After Cancellation by Sleekfingers: 2:56pm On Jul 10
πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ€£

When growing up , I know Sanitation officers called wole Wole . They will seal and fine houses that their compound or environments are dirty. Can't they bring them back?
Why can't the government employ those lazy youths to be cleaning .. And be paying them. They will be working under that ministry.....

Also they should also do something about waste disposals...

Bringing back monthly sanitation won't stop the issues of flooding in Lagos. If the government don't do the necessary. Decongest all the canals and create more channels.....
