First, NYSC could be a waste of corpers precious Time and tax payers funds if not utilised well.

You created NYSC so that people from different tribes can mingle and Bleep themselves to oblivion so as to foster national unity...
Because Why would a Yoruba man want to start a war when he knows that his igbo wife and children have igbo families and relatives

That I understand fully welll grin

But what do people really learn that's substantial in the 1 year they dedicate to NYSC? shocked

how to use printing machine??
How to use Microsoft Excel??
How to type and tick boxes with red and black pens??

Skills that make one a job slave and dependent on the 9-5 and 7-7 shift jobs system.
Corpers are not encouraged to think out the box unless thinking out the box equals starting their companies and factories hence repeating the cycle all over again

100% of salary earners spend 60% of salary on buying food stuffs to stay alive. New clothes and data subscription can wait. FOOD CANNOT!

THE SOLUTION :

Split NYSC into two groups. Those that want to spend their NYSC time on the farm with accomplished farmers and learn from them profitable farming practices

AND

those that want to spend their NYSC time in companies and factories learning how to use printing machine, printing paper and ticking white boxes with red pens

I don't want to learn how to march and chant esprit de corps...corpers SHUNN!!

I rather you teach me to run away from danger faster than you teach me how to march.

March into what?

The gloomy future that Nigeria is speeding into if cares not taken?

Nope. Thank you.

Setup farms that Government own and every year, BACK TO BACK you'll always have steady supply of farm workers in the form of able NYSC corpers.

There are farm crops that take less than a year to germinate and there are others on the farm that are ripe and ready for harvesting.

If our Corp Farmers don't learn the planting stage, they'll learn the harvesting stage surely...

Now for context....no one is saying graduates should carry cutlass into the farms to start weeding and making ridges with hoes

No!

NYSC should be a means for graduate to prove their 4-5 years spent in the school

The parents of corpers have invested money into their education...
The government have made education cheaper and subdised to a level.

Now when Nigeria is experiencing a food crisis, able corpers have decided to fold their hands and would choose instead to go serve in NPA or a government parastatal all because of the few change and carton of indomie they receive

What happens when the indomie cartons and few changes stop coming?
Then the corpers are booted back to reality that there is no food in the land...then the photocopying and typewriting skills they have learnt in NPA and other government parastatal for 1 full year of their lives wouldn't be able to feed them ....

Unless they want to start eating A1 and A4 papers and stepping down the delicious nutrition with red and black cartridge ink

You're a graduate...what do you have to show for it?

There are Nigerian graduates bustling with energy and motivation which can't be quantified in this ordinary piece of my writing...
How does the federal government choose to use them

The Federal Government of Nigeria was elected to govern over the lands in Nigeria...

All public leaders were elected by the masses...
And how does the government choose to serve the masses with the lands in its power

Most of the available lands are collecting dust and weed around....why not turn them to farmlands and equip our corpers with modernized tools to start farming

Food is the problem of Nigeria...even if we start importing, food will still be expensive by virtue of the exchange rate...unless we're importing food from a country in which our exchange rate beats theirs hands down

Nigeria has the lands...and as a bonus, Nigeria is also blessed with intelligent and educated able people in the form of corpers.

Why then do we cry and complain about food scarcity?

And not only graduate of agriculture should choose to serve in a mechanised farm...we also have engineering graduates...the mechanical and electrical...build proper irrigation system... natural power supply from sun and wind and water...that takes engineer corpers!

We would also need to take account and record inventories...that's where accounting graduates and other related comes in

And after harvesting, we would need to draft an agreement between the farms we serve and the traders that purchase our farm produce from us...

THAT'S WHERE LAW GRADUATES COME IN!

there are plethora of entries for corpers and not just limited to those who studied agriculture in school!

Head is for thinking...if the head stops thinking, would it still be considered a head. grin

A salt that lose its saltiness, would it still be considered salt

Nigeria can't be complaining of soap in its eyes when it's swimming inside the purest of waters
