FEDERAL MINISTRY OF WOMEN AFFAIRS

PRESS RELEASE

RE: ALLEGATIONS OF ALLEGED MISAPPROPRIATION OF FUNDS BY HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, FALSE, BIAS AND LACK EPITOME OF TRUTH

The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs wishes to address recent media reports containing inaccurate information about the Ministry's activities and leadership. We understand the importance of transparency and accountability, and we remain committed to serving Nigerian women effectively.

On July 09, 2024, the Honourable Minister, Barr. Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, appeared before the House Committee on Women Affairs as requested. During the session, she presented comprehensive documentation and explanations to address the rumours or allegations of misappropriated funds.

The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs emphasizes that all program and project payments are meticulously authorized, following established civil service regulations. Approval procedures involve the Director of Finance and Accounts, with final assent by the Permanent Secretary, the Ministry's accounting officer. The Honourable Minister also presented Supporting documents to substantiate the accuracy of all financial transactions.

Barr. Ohanenye has decided to abstain from making remarks or comments on this issue as she has filed a lawsuit (Suit No.E 500/2024) against Hon. Kafilat Ogbara for libel and defamation. In the spirit of due process, the Minister encourages the presentation of any evidence or proof by the Committee or Whosoever of alleged misappropriation in the court of law.

In her words "As far as I am the Minister of Women Affairs, I will continue to use the Resources judiciously for the benefits of Nigerian Women and Children, there will be no room for Financial Recklessness, Misappropriation of Resources and every Training will be backed up with Sustainable Empowerment".

The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, under the leadership of Barr Uju Kennedy Ohanenye is committed to collaborating with the Federal Lawmakers. We believe in a unified approach to achieving democratic ideals and addressing the pressing needs of Nigerian women and children, as outlined by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Why is the Minister bypassing the Perm. Sec to be working directly with the Director of Procurement who is Junior in rank?.. one of the Honourable Reps raised that point.

I don't know why people can't just do things with clean mind.. It's this "chop I chop" mentality of our people that is killing this country.

Tell your Minister that if EFCC or ICPC should step into the case, na big wahala for her. That attitude she is putting up at the legislature where House of Rep members are carrying out their oversight functions won't do her any good.

This woman is a decorated nincompoop, that committee represents Federal House of Assembly.

Simple question they can't answer

How much was allocated for project
How much was released
To which beneficiaries

They can't give straight answers.

Generally, women lack emotional intelligence.

You appeared before a NASS committee that claims to be on oversight function but actually came to scrutinize your activities because of petitions of non-payment of contract sums. What was Uju thinking? That the HoR members invited her to the NaSS for a meet-and-greet session?

The head of the committee presented her with hard facts sourced from documents in her own office. Instead of intelligently responding to the questions raised by the woman, she kept ranting for minutes without making any sense.

I know that woman used to be an actress. Does it mean actresses aren't reasonable people? Why allow emotions override your sense of reasoning? If your hands were clean, respond to the allegations raised and stop disgracing yourself and family on national TV. I hope she has something reasonable to say when the hearing reconvenes.
