4. Chocolate Puff Puff
Give our Nigerian puff puff a delicious chocolate twist. These chocolate puff puffs taste so good and we dare you to stop at one. Puff puff is a deep-fried sweet dough that is not only significant to Nigeria but the whole of West Africa. It is similar to Ghanaian Bofrot and the French Beignet.
You can't go wrong with this chocolate puff puff recipe. We have simplified making this recipe by including a step by step guide to help you.

Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
¾ cup Johnvents (JV) Pure Cocoa Powder
1 cup warm water
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon active dry yeast
½ teaspoon salt
Vegetable oil for frying
Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Method:
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, Johnvents (JV) Pure Cocoa Powder, sugar, and salt.
In a separate bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes, or until the yeast is foamy.
Add the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms.
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Heat vegetable oil in a large pot or deep fryer over medium heat.
Once the oil is hot, scoop tablespoonfuls of dough and gently drop them into the hot oil. Do not overcrowd the pot.
Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
Drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
Dust with powdered sugar (optional)
Serve warm and enjoy it with a cup of chocolate smoothie.

5. Chocolate Chin Chin
One of our favourite Nigerian snacks growing up was Chin-chin and till today it is still a fave. We like to describe it to those who don’t know what it is as ‘Nigerian fried cookies’, this is honestly the best description.
The base of this recipe is pretty much the same as that of a classic cookie: flour, sugar, butter, milk, and eggs. Some of these are optional depending on personal preferences or dietary requirements.
Ingredients:
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
¾ cup Johnvents (JV) Pure Cocoa Powder
½ cup granulated sugar
½ cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Vegetable oil for frying

Method (How To Make Chocolate Chin Chin)
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, Johnvents (JV) Pure Cocoa Powder, granulated sugar, powdered sugar, and salt.
In a separate bowl, cream together softened butter until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
Divide the dough in half and shape each half into a rectangular log about 1 inch thick and 8 inches long.
Wrap each log in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight.
Preheat vegetable oil in a large pot or deep fryer over medium heat.
Unwrap the dough logs and cut each log into diagonal slices about ½ inch thick.
Fry the chin chin slices in batches for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
Drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
Let cool completely before storing in an airtight container

These recipes are a fantastic way to celebrate world chocolate day.
