Lawyer and business consultant, Sir Chyma Anthony, has hailed President Bola Tinubu over the ruling of the Supreme Court that gave autonomy of funds to local government councils in the country.

Recall that the Apex Court ruled on Thursday giving financial autonomy to the 774 LGAs across the country.

The court also barred state .governors from dissolving democratically elected Local Government Councils in the country.

The apex court, in the judgement said doing so, would amount to a breach of the 1999 Constitution.

In the lead judgement read by Justice Emmanuel Agim, the apex court observed that the state governments’ refusal of financial autonomy for local governments has gone on for over two decades.

Anthony while reacting to the ruling in a press statement on Friday hailed the administration of President Bola Tinubu, for not only initiating the matter before the highest court in the land but ensuring that the case is concluded logically.

Anthony said the decision of the court, has birthed a new financial regime for Local Government Councils across the federation.

"This is particularly unique and historical judgement because its a matter previous administrations in the country were unable to achieve in their lifespan. The President and his legal team have successfully righted democracy in Nigeria and we should all be very proud of this achievement.

"This will allow accelarated development at the grassroots level unlike in the past when the Governors just take funds meant for LGAs for things that has nothing to do with the people in the local government areas," Anthony said.

He called on members of the National Assembly to march the president in history by amending the constitution to allow the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct local council elections from the current arrangement where state electoral bodies conduct councils elections.

Anthony argued that LGA elections in Nigeria today are a total embarrassment of the country and a clear negation to the tenets of democracy and should be discouraged.

The said the way and manner local councils are managed does not promote inclusive growth and development.

"It's is possible to achieve a total independence of the local administration in Nigeria. The President has done his part, it is the turn of the National Assembly to do its own to allow democracy thrive in the country.

"President Tinubu has written his name in gold with this landmark victory at the Apec Court, this has brought joy and the optimism for national development across our rural communities in the country," Anthony stated.
