The only thing the LG autonomy will cause is that local governments would be funded directly from federal government's and not through state government anymore.
This is a very good thing for a country that does have corruption in it but there're a few problems with it and that's why Peter obi choose to stay silent and watch, the problems are as follows:

1) IT IS UNNECESSARY: The only reason it was implemented was to curb corruption at the state level of government,if we didn't have much corruption in the country then there wouldn't be need for the LG to be autonomous. Most developed countries don't have autonomous LGs so Nigerians who see it as a step towards progress aren't well informed.

2) IT WILL BREED MORE CORRUPTION: The LG autonomy will make the distribution of funds more complex and create more loopholes for embezzlement. It'll allow for more people to be able to access government funds and each will embezzle to a sum total higher than what one state government used to, for example Lagos state used to receive just an amount of money from the government and the state might embezzle the funds but that will be just once then the rest will be sent to the LGs but now Lagos state with 22 LGs with receive 22 different amounts of money which will be embezzled 22 times by 22 different LG chairmen making the money short more than it will before their autonomy.

3) IT WILL CAUSE CONFLICTS BETWEEN DIFFERENT LGs IN EACH STATE: Not all LGs are of the same size, population or generate the same amount of money for the government,if all LGs in a state are given the same amount of money the bigger LGs will complain that their fund is to small for their size and that of the small LGs are too much for them.
Even if the money is shared according to size there'd still be conflicts surrounding equality of funds.
State governments have had these problems with each other in the past and it's bound to triple due to this LG autonomy.

4) IT'S A TACTIC FOR THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT TO DISTRACT THE MASSES FROM SERIOUS ISSUES:Now everyone has forgotten about the hunger and inflation ravaging the country and we're now talking about LG autonomy.
The government did this out of fear that nigerians might be brewing for protest against bad governance emulating Kenya so they used this to distract the masses and it worked.

Peter obi knows all of these and that's why he didn't congratulate anyone, he'd react to APC dismay when this New policy starts revealing it's dark side.

I'm tired of seeing people blame Peter obi for not congratulating the government when they do something that they should have done since, we're so used to bad governance that we now tell the government thank you when they do what's expected of them.

The autonomy is only for collection of federal allocations, not for spending the allocations. So, what has really changed?

Remember that every state has its own electoral body (not INEC) that conducts local government chairmanship elections. With this, governors will make their puppets LGA chairmen and decide how those chairmen spend the federal allocations.

If you think the chairmen can decide to disobey the governors, think of how many LGA chairmen that are clean enough to boldly and successfully disobey their political godfathers. Remember that the puppets selected as LGA chairmen are the ones with rotten profiles that can be used to blackmail and silence those chairmen when those chairmen prove stubborn.

It shows you don't really follow constitution. All LGA in Nigeria will continue to recieve in percentage based on output from LGA to federal. It as all been soon in 1999 before criminals governor start siphoning the money. No LGA will complain. Obia okpor in river is the richest local government and no other local has ever complain about them since 1999, same as Oredo is the richest in Edo state and there are no quarrel about it. What will comes directly to LGA is enough for them to bring development to the grassroot. Edo state government received 55b from federal account for just 2023 and that would not have been share equally, the least LGA in Edo will have close to 2b and it is enough for the chairman to pay salaries and provide projects in 2023.

Obi ad Obidients have a strong affinity for Negativity ,thars why they are only quick to react to bad things

From a psychological POV, they are mentally troubled.

It's one reason I can never join that kinda movement. My world vibrates on positive energy level

In a country where street lighting, creating streets and naming it, building cemeteries and maintaining them, building streets, sanitation, building parks etc etc are the constitutional responsibilities of the LG, the autonomy is very necessary.
Trying to defend Obi means u should prètènd the truth is wrong?
U foIks are really pathetic, when this starts paying off, u will enjoy it but u prefer u don't enjoy it because it doesn't tell well on Obi that dón't care about you?

NB: those of u claiming to be so savvy when it comes to governance, go and transform ur LGA now.
