Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, during a press conference, that he "blessed what he described as the Mawasi operation after presenting it to the Shin Bet, and after learning that there were no Israeli abductees in the vicinity of the raid site."

Netanyahu also said that the Israeli raid on Mawasi Khan Yunis injured Muhammad Deif, the commander-in-chief of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, and his deputy, Rafi Salama, "but I do not know the fate of Deif."

The Prime Minister added, "Killing the leaders of Hamas brings us closer to achieving our goals... and eliminating the leaders of the movement supports achieving all the goals of the war and Israel's goals against other parties, including Iran."

He stressed that the war will only end when it achieves all its goals, saying: "We will not stop it for a single second before that."

On Saturday, dozens were killed and others were injured in an intensive Israeli airstrike that targeted the areas of the displaced people's tents in the Al-Mawasi area, west of Khan Yunis city in the southern Gaza Strip, in what the Palestinians described as a hideous massacre in the area that Israel claimed was a safe humanitarian zone.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that the death toll from what it described as the "ugly massacre of the occupation" against citizens and displaced people in the Al-Mawasi area of Khan Yunis Governorate reached 90 dead (half of them children and women) and 300 injured, including serious and critical cases, with medical teams still dealing with them at the moment.

"We will continue to control the Philadelphi axis and the Rafah crossing"
The Israeli Prime Minister referred to the deal to exchange Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, saying, "I do not obstruct the completion of any deal, and if there is a good deal, we must adhere to the principles that we set... I did not add any item to the original items that were present in the original deal proposal."

He said that he had repeatedly stressed that in order to make progress in the exchange deal, "we must enter Rafah and we did so."

Netanyahu added that the Israeli army killed 900 of what he described as "terrorists" when it entered the Philadelphi corridor in Rafah.

He said: "We want to control the prevention of arms smuggling from Egypt, and this means that we will continue to control the Philadelphi corridor and the Rafah crossing."

The Israeli army confirmed that Mohammed Deif, the commander of Hamas's military wing, and Rafi Salama, the commander of Hamas's Khan Yunis brigade, "were the targets of the Israeli airstrike" in the southern Gaza Strip on Saturday morning.

The Israeli army added that "the strike was precise and targeted only a Hamas site."

The Times of Israel website reported that "the two military commanders live in a low-rise building between the Mawasi area and Khan Yunis, in a civilian environment, but not in a camp for displaced Palestinians."

The website indicated that "the building is located in a fenced Hamas compound."

The website quoted military sources as saying that "dozens of Hamas activists were also present in the area of the site when it was targeted, including guards."

Mohammed Deif survived seven Israeli assassination attempts, the most recent of which was in 2021. His name has topped Israel's wanted list for decades, and Israel holds Deif responsible for the deaths of dozens of Israelis during bombing operations.

The death toll rises in the Israeli raid on Khan Yunis, and Netanyahu says he does not know the fate of the leader Mohammed Deif
