The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and detention of a police inspector, Aminu Muhammed, for alleged robbery.

The cop was alleged to have robbed the residence of those around his duty station, the ‘C’ Division in Lokoja, the state capital.

Police spokesperson in the state, William Ayah, who confirmed the incident on Tuesday, said the police inspector has been arrested and is already in detention.

He added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Bertrand Onuoha, has ordered a thorough investigation into the alleged misconduct.

Luck ran out on the inspector following the escapades of a notorious gang who specialised in robbing houses of household items and cars in the state.

A source told our reporter that a stolen car was found in the workshop of the policeman’s panel beater who was already working on changing the car’s colour at Ochadamu in the Ofu Local Government Area of the state.

Those who knew the vehicle and were aware of the robbery incident in the owner’s house on 14th June 2024, quickly raised the alarm upon sighting the car.

The car’s number plate had already been changed to an Abuja number just as a car dealer’s receipt, backdated to 2020, was presented by the officer as his evidence of purchasing it.

His panel beater had primed the car preparatory to changing its colour before the alarm was raised and policemen of the Quick Response Unit (QRU) attached to the Police Area Command, Idah, apprehended him.

Upon reaching the ‘A’ Division in Lokoja, where the QRU took the apprehended panel beater, it was found that the criminals who committed the robbery had already been arrested for committing another crime.

One of the members of the gang of armed robbers, who had also been on the police wanted list for other crimes, confessed to the commission of the robbery, and named the police officer as the mastermind.

He confessed that they were contracted to rob the house of the owner of the car for the sole aim of getting the car for the inspector.

But it is the same police that arrested the inspection n didn't hide him,so to me it's more of an individual personal bad character rather than the institution, yes there are lots of bad police officers taking advantage of their position but there are plenty good ones as well,I can attest to it,there are also good n bad people in all spheres of life even among the most noble of professions.

...as educated/enlightened men/women keep refusing to join the military and paramilitary forces because of the low pay and high risk associated with the work, illiterates and criminals must surely fill in the gap

it's high time the government prioritize key factors else the issues of criminality, collecting of bribe, embezzlement and corruption within the forces will continue, if our politicians are handsomely paid, then why not the persons who risk their lives on a daily basis.....let the government raise the salaries of these people and see how some vices die a natural death....

Too bad if true. But why are workers not paid well so that anyone who steals would be properly blamed? Why should a policeman be unable to afford a car after many years of service due to poor pay? Lets think it instead of blaming our servicemen.

May God help us.
We first need to reverse back to our traditional values , putting family as the first school , we must let charity begin from home , education must start from home and family must start teaching moral value

You see why Nigerians don't trust and like the police? A lot of crimes in Nigeria are perpetrated by NPF officers.

You go to the station to get justice, but all they think about is how to extort you.
•They say bail is free, but if you don't pay, they won't allow you leave their station.
•They are ready to incriminate you if you don't cooperate when they ask you for bribes.
•If any argument ensues between you and them, they tell you they are "ready to kill you and nothing will happen"

Now tell me why the average person would like the Nigerian police... You guys should change your ways! NPF officers are a BIG part of the problem in this country.

Hundeyin posted a story of a police man who kills his partners and sells their weapons.
