After last Thursday's Supreme Court ruling banning the use of caretaker committees to administer federal funds, at least 13 states have now set specific dates for Local Government elections.

The states that have started getting ready for council elections are Kaduna, Kogi, Bauchi, Katsina, Osun, Enugu, Benue, Rivers, Jigawa, Imo, Kebbi, Abia, and Anambra.

The Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission has set the date for the council election on October 19, 2024.

During a gathering with political groups and other concerned parties on Tuesday, the Chairperson of Kaduna SIECOM, Hajara Mohammed, revealed that the current council members were inaugurated on November 1, 2021, and will conclude their term on October 31, 2024.

The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission has set October 19 as the date for the upcoming local government election to be held across the state.

During a stakeholders' meeting held in Lokoja on Tuesday, Mamman Eri, the Chairman of the electoral commission, stated that the decision was made in accordance with the Constitution and the authority given to the state Independent Electoral Commission.

The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission has scheduled the local government elections in the state for August 19th.

At a news conference in Bauchi on Tuesday, Alhaji Ahmad Makama, the Chairman of the commission, announced that all preparations have been finalized to guarantee transparent and equitable elections.

Nigeria is a joke. You don't want to give the governors the allocations but the same governors are the ones to choose who will get the allocations from you. Are you not funny?

Na still the governors go put their puppets in the positions. No be the rulling party in each state go win most of the seats?

The autonomy is just for the collection of the allocations, not for the spending of the allocations. Each parish will still pay tithes to the headquarter. grin

I support local government autonomy. But the new policy will not achieve the autonomy. Remember that the elections will be conducted by state INEC, not the main INEC. With this, governors will make their puppets LGA chairmen and decide how those chairmen spend the federal allocations.

If you think the chairmen can decide to disobey the governors, think of how many LGA chairmen that are clean enough to boldly and successfully disobey their political godfathers. Remember that the puppets selected as LGA chairmen are the ones with rotten profiles that can be used to blackmail and silence those chairmen when those chairmen prove stubborn.

I'm aware that since the last administration ended in Nigeria, the #30,000 BMC stipend has become extinct. Mannabbqgrill's must have significantly declined from his former status. You cannot inflict harm on others and expect to be exempted. As they say, 'when heaven falls, it affects everyone.

Anyway to steal, anyone opposing that Supreme Court judgement that has laid to rest the issue of local government financial autonomy is a suspected criminal.

You see most of those old nigerian men born from 1940s to 1970s. Most of them need to be keeeled. They are the ones who destroyed this country and they are the reason why the country will never have headway. Them too plenty for every corners of the country. Them like Toto die.
