boko haram is now getting attention they needed ready to taste Yankee bullet, real gun smoke

WASHINGTON  (AFP) – A US congressional report on Wednesday flagged Nigeria’s Boko Haram Islamist sect as an “emerging threat” that could represent an eventual security risk to the United States and its interests.

The group has been blamed for scores of attacks in Nigeria, including the August suicide bombing of the United Nations’ Nigeria headquarters in the capital Abuja that killed at least 24 people, and is believed to have ties to Al-Qaeda.

The Congress report, presented at a hearing of the House of Representatives subcommittee on counter-terrorism and intelligence, said that US interests are also at risk.

“Boko Haram has quickly evolved and poses an emerging threat to US interests and the US homeland,” said the 28-page report written by the panel.

“The United States should work with the government of Nigeria to build counterterrorism and intelligence capability to effectively counter Boko Haram,” it said.

The document added that the Islamist group “has the intent and may be developing capability to coordinate on a rhetorical and operational level with Al-Qaeda in the Lands of the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) and Al-Shebab.”

Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for multiple gun, bomb and suicide attacks this month in Damatur, targeting police and churches and killing 150 people in addition to the UN attack, and US lawmakers said they believe that the risk to the United States has been underestimated.

The group’s “fast evolution in targeting and tactics mirrors other Al-Qaeda affiliated groups and is worrisome,” the subcommittee’s chairman, Representative Patrick Meehan, said at the start of the hearing.

“While I recognize there is little evidence at this moment to suggest Boko Haram is planning attacks against the (US) homeland, lack of evidence does not mean it cannot happen,” he said.

Peter Pham, an expert with the Atlantic Council thinktank, testified at the hearing that for the moment, the Nigerian group’s reach is “still somewhat limited.”

“Nevertheless, the fact that the group has been able in recent months to expand its operations beyond its base in northern Nigeria ought to be a wake-up call to both the Nigerian government and the international community,” Pham told lawmakers.

1)I am not in anyway surprise about the outburst of these abokis and mallams in this forum.if nigeria is in the list of america's list of countries to steal their wealth and boko haram is inviting them,so be it. it is better to embrace america and her allies for safety of our lives and property in exchange for the oil than to live all days with the so called oil perpetually afraid of being bombed by your boko mallams.
from darlin 76 cool
2)When the hear USA talking like this, I will not be surprise if the issue of BIAFRA comes up one day, so that they can defend their interest peacefully, !!

3)America is right and we can not wait for the predator to start target-bombing these stone-aged animals, their senators, governors and retired military sponsors! Imagine how these animals are damaging Nigeria image abroad. Today if you're traveling as a Nigerian with green passport, you're been searched not just for drugs and fake documents, but also as a suicide bomber. I blame British that amalgamated ANIMALS and HUMANS and call them Nigeria.

4)The situation will get worst until we have great leaders like Ojukwu who will tell the truth and defend the truth at all cost. We are a nation ruined by political hypocrites, unenlightened leaders, and most corrupt vultures,  and citizens that are polarized along ethnic and tribal sentiments. To glue together is difficult; To separate is even harder, therefore situation remain fluid, dangerous, on auto pilot like a river without that cannot flow left or right. Mass exodus of citizens to foreign lands to anyone who could the find opportunity to escape the state of siege. People say revolution, the question is by who and for who?   Where are the progressives? When Ojukwu called for the Grand Alliance of All Progressives as the solution of our nation problem and salvation of its people, only few paid him any attention talk-less of answering the call. Jeremiah the prophet lamented over Israel because of its destitute state of affairs. Nnamdi Azikiwe tried it, they say an Igbo man, no one listened. General Thomas Ironsi tried it, they say an Igbo man, they killed him. Ojukwu tried it, they say an Igbo man, and forced him into exile.  Today, the glorify him and singing praises of him, but have Nigerians learned any lesson of history? God, please show us the way.

Another bad news for northern Nigeria. It's a gradual sublime procedure to fully tag BH a terrorist group and next, d drones come swooping down over d region. It's a psychological propaganda in anticipation of such near future moves, unfortunately d history of north has terrible reputation already. I pity d majority common men.

Boko Haram is a cowardly organization. I am yet to see them bring down any corrupt government politician.
The north is not in short supply of these corrupt goons but all Boko does is to strike innocent peasants like themselves. Buncha Idioots!

They will only begin to court the love of the peasant talakawa when they change their strategy to that of "Mallam Robin Hood" instead of "Mallam Bombin Hood"

I want you all to think about the Procedures
1: Put the nation in the spotlight
2: Plan and setup a terrorist ring(whether made of nationals or foreign elements)
3: Put the Nation in the world's spotlight
4: Flare hate among any possible divisions,
5: PERCEIVE THREAT
6: In the pretense of eliminating threat Dominate the target.
7:Maintain Dominance

After you have thought about those procedures then think about this

BOKO HARAM DOES NOT EXIST, CIA OPERATION TOWARDS DOMINANCE IS IN EXISTENCE IN NIGERIA.

Enough talk. We are waiting for U.S. presence in north already. As long as the military base is based up their and not in the East its all good.

Bring the drones already. You can operate them covertly from Owerri, Enugu, or Awka. In fact Festac in Lagos, and southern kaduna and Jos is available. Just let us know what you need, and when.

That Boko Haram is a threat to America is over dramatization. They simply don't have such a capability. But America is a country that can not waste a good opportunity. One way or the other, Bush's AFRICOM ll be realized!
Re: Boko Haram An “emerging Threat” – Us Congress by thoth: 12:19pm On Dec 03, 2011
It does not matter where they built their base north, west or south, once there is a physical FOREIGN military presence in Nigeria and a reason to sustain the presence Nigeria would loose all soverignity and power. Your leaders would be choosen for you by the foreign nation down to local goverment level, the number of civilian casualties on all regions(especially in the southeast) would soar, the goverment would loose all accountability and responsibiliy to the masses since they now answer to their alien overlords, the international community would start harrasing, maltreating and dehumasing nigerian since they are now at the center stage of international terrorism,it would be 15 times more harder for nigerians to travel, social amenities would breakdown or simply disappear.
Meanwhile the crude oil output of nigeria will increase while a series of billion dollar security and arms deals with foreign nations would increase leaving very little for the country or putting the country in grave debt.
As arms flow is DELIBERATELY made easier many opportunist will raise private armies in order to get a cut in the deals thereby creating multiple warring factions scenario, adding to the chaos and reducing the chance for the people to unite and find a solution.
If you think CNN,BBC and Al Jazeera would report the true incidents and situation to the world then you will be gravely disappointed,if you think other world powers would come to your aid out of compassion you are dreaming. You guys would be butchered and intimidated in your own land without an opportunity to make your voice heard, and if the resulting conflict ever ends in 20 years then nigeria is a lucky nation.
