Minister Of Education Update On Student Loan And Education For PLWD by Dongideon007: 3:13pm On Jul 18
Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, speaking at the JAMB policy meeting on Thursday gave update from FG on the issues of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), explained that, “As part of the Renewed Hope Agenda, the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration launched NELFUND to provide interest-free loans to students, ensuring access to higher education for all Nigerians.”

He added, “Eligibility for this loan requires students to be properly admitted and listed on the National Matriculation List, which is only possible if all stakeholders adhere to the existing guidelines. Compliance ensures that students receive the benefits they deserve.”

Addressing inclusive education, the minister stated, “Despite efforts to ensure equal opportunities, challenges for Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWD) in accessing education remain significant.”

He highlighted a reform from the 2023 Roadmap for the Nigerian Education Sector, noting, “The waiver of application fees during the 2024 registration exercise for PLWD has yielded positive results, with a notable increase in applicants. Efforts continue to encourage more PLWD participation.”

Congratulating the registrar and management of JAMB, Prof. Mamman remarked, “The board has consistently stood out among public agencies for its transparency, integrity, and efficiency, enhancing Nigeria’s education system.”

Emphasizing the importance of the admission process, he advised, “Let us work together to ensure it is a process built on reliability, equity, transparency, and inclusivity, benefiting all students.”
