N70,000 Minimum Wage: We Can’t Pay Unless…. – Organised Private Sector Cries Out by treesun: 7:56pm On Jul 18
The Organised Private Sector, OPS, has warned that members cannot pay the N70,000 National Minimum Wage announced by the Federal Government without support.

Reacting to the news of President Bola Tinubu’s approval of N70,000 as the new national minimum wage, Spokesperson of OPS, and Director General of the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association, NECA, Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde, said.

while we commend the President for putting to rest the immediate issue of the National Minimum Wage, we also note, most importantly his commitment to support the sub-nationals and the Organized Private Sector to pay the new wage”

Any company that employ 25 people and above and can't pay 70k to their lowest staff should close down

That one is expected. Not all the private sectors would be able to afford the N70k as minimum wage.

The private schools in the village with how many students or staff?

Things we could have discussed earlier and find solutions to, we would rather be engaging in petty discussions.

With the "rich" mentality of big private businesses who travels for luxury in and out of Nigeria like they're moving around their kitchen and parlour, it's time to cut off some expenses from your menu. I tell you, you can pay because you're making a lot of money.

Alex Otti won't bother himself. As far as he is concerned,15k is the highest he will pay and Abia workers are not complaining. The workers will rather insult Tinubu for approving 70k which can't buy a bag of rice. Ironically, those are the people calling others slaves.

If you were a staff of a PRIVATE company receiving 25k per month, and they say they cannot pay you 70k but can manage to pay you 50k, would you accept it or prefer to refuse so that the company can close down and you return to the labour market with no certainty of a new job in the next few months?
Most companies are still not going to pay up to minimum wage and nothing will happen. In fact I know of some people that kneel down to greet their bosses just for paying them salaries, not to talk of if the boss now decides to add just 10 - 15k to their salary instead of the commensurate minimum wage pay

There is no justification to pay that to your staff it's impossible to justify

Any company of such should be fined and made to pay 10 million per staff they under pay

Calculate how much each worker is making for you in a month

You expect a petrol station to pay 70k to their attendants

Even banks, how much do they pay their contract staffs? Let’s not even talk about insurance companies.

Most of you are not realistic in your expectations on this issue of minimum wage.

We all know more than half of the states wont pay this 70k (which is meagre, considering the current economic realities).

The labor guys will now direct their energy to state govt... tired of the same cycle repeating itself.

Isn't it a common business sense that if your recurrent expenditure has increased, you should increase the price of your service (if you're a service provider) or increase the price of your goods? Or worse still, downsize so as to keep your business running. Why the hue and cry from the organized private sector?

BTW:

Reeno Omokrii should make Nigerians know how much Tinubu government paid him to tarnish Peter Obi's image, cos we heard he is Tinubu's new signing. His contract with Atiku has expired.

It seems like this OPS looks like POS that's why they are saying they can't pay. We all know the POS or OPS sector is categorized. I don't know why they are complaining.
