They have landed!
Inferiority complex.
We know the people that "grab, snatch and run away".
Next month now they will try to recreate a song to rival Mike Ejeagha.

It's a Yoruba folklore twisted and made meaningless if the interpretations I'm reading here are true.
Yoruba folklore are made to entertain and teach kids.
There's always a moral lesson embedded in such stories.

The folklorists also existed in literature. Example; the author of the Igbo book Omenuko, wrote that book many years before anybody heard of Chinua Achebe. And so did many authors write in Yourubaland before anybody heard of Wole Soyinka.

It was the "Powerful story writers like Chinua Achebe, Cyprian ekwensi, Christopher okigbo, chimamanda Adichie, Buchi emecheta, Flora nwapa, Elechi Amadi" that actually bastardized the tradition by adoption of an unnatural language to tell an African story.

Just look at that Mike Ejeagha song, for example, and you'll see certain things he said which can only be understood as an Igbo man or woman.

Be rest assured that these "powerful writers" have no place in future. Their works would not stand the test of time because it's not rooted in culture, therefore, culture would not carry them along in same way as Mike Ejeagha.

There were many authors writing before William Shakespeare in England but you didn't hear about them, except a historical mention y academics because their works were not rooted in English culture. They wrote in Greek, French, Latin and when England went back to their native Angles language, they became forgotten.

I can bet you my life that Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka and co would be forgotten. Culture won't carry them along like Mike Ejeagha.
I don't know your beef with these iconic men but I can tell you they were the ones if not the first to export our culture through writing to all parts of the world. They didn't bastardized anything not even one bit.

In the novel of things fall apart, there's a glossary list at the end of the book where all words mentioned in Igbo in the novel is explained in English. This is mainly for readers from non Igbo speaking Clan...

Mike ejeagha showcased our oral Igbo Traditional folklore in music; Chinua Achebe et al exported to the whole world our Igbo Traditional rites and customs.

There's no need for discrepancy here bro

Gwo gwo gwo gwom made sense to an igbo man not to you. That you don't understand it or that the writer didn't expound on it does not mean it was borrowed.
Why can't you guys just resist the urge of this "my car is bigger than yours" syndrome. It's beginning to look silly

There is a Yoruba story about a tortoise deceiving an elephant and leading him into captivity by humans
That is not in dispute
I have no doubt without even checking that story will be on Nairaland

There is no doubt about the similarly which is unmistakable
Just like Arabs claim the Abraham sacrifice story was about Ismai. And Jews claim the story was about Isaac

So there is a serious question of plagiarism

Where is the oldest documented Ibo version recorded

Me have a "beef" with them? Not me please, in fact, I am doing them a huge favor to help them come to their senses.

And no, Chinua Achebe did not export Igbo culture any where in the world. He exported African stories in English.

The culture is the language the literature is done, not the story. Anybody can write the same story but not everyone can write it in Igbo language.

My great grand father, The Great Ikuku Mmuo used to tell us this story and many other stories when I was little.
He told me how africans were so close and inseparable with nature in time past that they communicated with the earth, animals, trees and all lived in harmony...

The white man came with corruption, greed, disunity, diseases, and their religion to create enemity between brothers who slept in the same womb of mother Africa.

Typical...a black man never takes responsibility.

Keep blaming others for your failures.

I'm sure the white man also taught Africans how to use charms to harm and kill themselves.

something is amiss here. Same story existed in Yoruba land long ago, even 'gwo gwo gwo ngwo' sounds like 'ogo lugo'. The former makes no sense but the latter fits the narrative of the story. My opinion is that the singer got the story from Yoruba land but sang the ibo version. Respect to the actual source

Actual Source Ni, Yam and Sauce Kou.

People will just manage to buy 100mb data and come online to spew unfounded rubbish.

That music was popular among Igbos in the 80s and 90s , it wasn't that skit that made it popular, though maybe for genZs , brain jotter did not make Mike Ejeagha's music because I've been listening to it at home whenever my father plays it. Maybe you must have been heard said "I n'ako akuko Mike ejeagha" meaning "you're just talking folktales or stories" that adage have been popular among Igbos since the entrance of his music into the Igbo music industry

I have questions

1. How come the elephant didn't know that the Kings daughter required an elephant as bride price
2. How did the King or anyone think they can hold an elephant by a rope? I've seen an elephant in kano zoo eating a whole branch of tree 🌳. So who could hold a big elephant by the rope
3. Why does the story not tell us the dearest wishes of the Kings other children. Why does it focus on only the greedy daughter
4. So what now happened? The tortoise married a Kings daughter? Haba nao.... tortis oooo.... married a human being because she felt it Is rich? Are you saying a female human being will marry a monkey if it brings a rolce Royce?
in igbo tradition if folktale is interpreted to you that means ur mother's bride price was a waste

Actually it is not that Yoruba have theirs

This is a plagiarism call out and direct claim of cultural appropriation

Don't twist it

Simple question
Is there any where Ibos recorded this story and on what date?
Nothing wrong in saying you adapted a Yoruba story

But the theme of a tortoise deceiving an elephant into capture came from somewhere?

Show us any book where this story is recorded by an Ibo before now

It's called folklore/folktale...most of us grew up on stories like these. These were our own bedtime stories and above all It's mostly the MORAL of the story that count. All African countries have it...including the Greeks who developed theirs into philosophy..just trying help 🙄
