Bitter truths as always First of all , I am a capitalist to the core and I am a supporter of big businesses as they drive innovation and push frontiers. I don’t support communism or socialist tendencies where you take from the rich and give to the poor. I don’t support palliatives if it’s not geared towards reviving individual productivity. I believe in survival of the fittest . I believe in the reward of merit and so as such , I hate quota systems with a passion. Having said all that , let’s look put on a neutral thinking cap and look at this issue , the man Aliko Dangote and the history of his business relations in Nigeria . Yes he is a capitalist but he did not achieve his astronomical success on a free and fair playing ground. He has operated outside the rules of fair competition at every opportunity virtually unchecked. From cronyism to ethno-religious favouritism to quota system to downright fraud, the man has done everything but play fair. Starting from the days of Babangida when he had a rice import monopoly for the entire country (on what basis) to the Buhari regime where the border was shut down to all businesses except for Dangote’s (and BUA’s), the government has essentially propped him up. What about CBN FX fraud under Buhari? Should he be walking free? It’s noteworthy that the Emefiele is being prosecuted for all manner of fraud including FX dealings but one of the main beneficiaries of the said fraud is being celebrated as a national industrial icon ! Listen, I am not a fan of the Tinubu administration: they’re clueless on governance, they push massive propaganda, they’ve legalized thuggery and entrenched criminality in government , embarked on massive wastage and looting of public funds via white elephant projects and fraud-ridden palliative measures, not to mention the ethno-centric , “awa lokan” mindset that pervades their government. Yes, yes and yes to all that . But on the issue of Dangote’s monopoly , they’re right . Infact , if all they’ve done is to accuse him of monopoly, then they’re going easy on him . The man should be charged for fraud in collusion with former CBN officials . He is not a saint . He does not deserve pity or mercy. Shikena! 2 Likes |

Something tells me Dangote is being used to distract Nigerians from what Tinubu has been plotting for the protest. |

Simply say.. he ran out of luck this time. Yorubas are not wired to support monopoly, everything Dangote boasts of today is all thanks to the Nigerian Government and the many policies of FG on ease of doing business and promoting local manufacturing. He started cement business and got Governmemt to ban importation of cement into the country so he will have monopoly of the cement market. What they don't do in advanced countries is what Nigeria did to promote Dangote's business. See Ibeto and others like him, how they were kicked out of business with "Dangote-centric" policies by Government officials on his (Dangote) payroll. We say no to "One Man Monopoly" and yes to free market with equal, even and fair playing ground for all investors (both indigenous and foreign). 1 Like |

SmartyPants: Can you be ignorant and knowledgeable at the same time ? No . You can only be one. In this case you’re clearly ignorant . Whether by design or default , (willfully or inadvertently) you are . You must’ve either been living under a rock or you feel an obligation to leap to his defence . Either way , since you claim knowledge , then I leave it to you to enlighten yourself . |

Wait, so it is the saboteurs in the oil industry that has used over $40 billion (1999-2014) as maintenance on refineries that aren’t working that are protecting our commonwealth abi? These demons have spent more than twice than as much on what Dangote used to set up a brand new refineries all in the maintaining the government owned refineries. Why aren’t these government refineries working? If the refineries are working, will we be talking about Dangote monopoly right now? Corruption begets corruption. Those that made their bed should lie on it.

BitterTruth0001:You come here to write rubbish. You think you are talking to your village people. Who told you he was the only one importing what ever during ibb era.And the boarder was equally closed on him during Buhari time.It affected constructions in many neighbouring countries that depended on nigeria cement. Cbn dollars was not all sold to Dangote my friend. It was the official exchange rate and was sold to people that got qualified. Finally was it monopoly that made his father and grand father billionaires too Don't go and create wealth for you generation and be talking rubbish |

BitterTruth0001: Instead of typing all that nonsense up there, why not expatiate as asked? Shouldn't be so hard if you had the slightest clue. But you don't, as i've already demonstrated. The first statement in your thesis of trash is wrong, leading to the rebuttable presumption that everything else here is gibberish too. You don't know what you are talking about as Dangote had an exclusive sugar license not a rice license. So its obvious you are just an ignorant beer parlour tout. |

BitterTruth0001: The Shady Empire: Unmasking Dangote’s Business Practices The issue of Aliko Dangote’s dominance in the Nigerian economy is a topic that often sparks heated debates. While many hail him as a beacon of industrial progress, a deeper dive into his business practices reveals a darker side that challenges the principles of fair competition and merit-based success. The writer’s critique sheds light on some bitter truths, but there are more instances worth mentioning that further vilify Dangote’s business empire. Crony Capitalism and Ethno-Religious Favoritism Dangote’s rise to prominence is riddled with instances of cronyism and ethno-religious favoritism. The rice import monopoly granted to him during Babangida’s regime is a prime example. This monopoly was not based on merit but on connections, shutting out other potential players and creating an uneven playing field. This favoritism extended to the Buhari administration, where the border was selectively closed to other businesses while Dangote’s operations continued unhindered. Such practices stifle competition and innovation, which are the true drivers of a thriving capitalist economy. Border Closure and Market Manipulation The border closure under Buhari’s regime, which selectively allowed Dangote’s operations to continue, is a blatant example of market manipulation. This action severely affected small and medium-sized businesses, which rely on cross-border trade. By giving Dangote an unfair advantage, the government not only undermined these businesses but also disrupted the market equilibrium, leading to artificial scarcity and inflated prices for consumers. CBN FX Fraud and Unchecked Corruption The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) FX fraud scandal under Buhari’s administration is another glaring instance of Dangote’s unethical business practices. While CBN officials like Godwin Emefiele face prosecution, Dangote, one of the main beneficiaries, remains untouched. The FX allocations granted to his businesses at preferential rates gave him an undue advantage over other importers, further entrenching his monopoly. This not only distorts the market but also raises serious questions about the integrity of Nigeria’s financial system. Anti-Competitive Practices in Cement Industry Dangote’s control over the cement industry is perhaps the most egregious example of his monopolistic practices. Despite receiving numerous concessions, including tax breaks and access to cheap raw materials, Dangote Cement’s prices remain higher in Nigeria than in countries like Kenya and Ethiopia. This is not due to market forces but due to the deliberate suppression of competition. Competitors have reported instances where Dangote’s company has engaged in predatory pricing and other anti-competitive practices to maintain its dominance. Suppression of Emerging Competitors The narrative of Dangote crushing budding businesses is not new. Instances of smaller businesses being forced out of the market through unfair competition tactics are well-documented. For example, smaller cement producers have often struggled to survive due to the barriers created by Dangote’s dominant market position. This suppression extends beyond the cement industry, affecting sectors like sugar and flour where Dangote’s companies hold significant market shares. Unethical Business Practices There are numerous accounts of unethical business practices associated with Dangote’s companies. From exploiting labor to engaging in environmental degradation, these practices paint a picture of a conglomerate that prioritizes profit over people and the planet. Workers’ rights violations and poor working conditions are rampant in many of his factories, raising serious concerns about the social and ethical responsibilities of his businesses. The Call for Fair Competition The essence of capitalism lies in fair competition and innovation. Dangote’s monopolistic practices undermine these principles, creating an economy where a few thrive at the expense of many. The government’s role should be to foster a competitive environment that encourages new entrants and drives innovation, not to prop up monopolies that stifle growth. Supporting big businesses and industrial giants is essential for national development, but it must be done within the framework of fair competition and ethical practices. Aliko Dangote’s success, built on a foundation of cronyism, favoritism, and anti-competitive practices, is a far cry from the merit-based achievements of historical and contemporary industrial titans. For Nigeria to truly prosper, it needs to support a diverse range of businesses and ensure a level playing field where merit, not connections, determines success. The call for accountability and fair competition is not just about Dangote; it’s about the future of Nigeria’s economy and the principles that will guide its growth. 1 Like |

Agbâdo bastárds are looking for all means to justify the vilification of Dangote and the continued suffering of Nigerians. Common sense should have made the bastards ask themselves why the sudden volte face against Dangote by their political puppet masters after years of praising him for this same refinery. Why fight something that will grant reprieve to the government in power, our forex reserves and the long suffering masses especially in the short to medium term while we wait for other refineries to start production. What the hell is happening to the Ph refinery (please don't lie to me like other ignorants) . Why is subsidy still being paid at over 700bn naira a month and why is it that those who fought GEJ for removing subsidy in 2012 are the same people figuring Dangote in 2024. Is it because he's going to make reasons for Nigeria's continued payment of subsidy claims redundant. GEJ has been vindicated once again. Agbâdo bastárds are the dumbest people on planet mutherfúcking earth |

We need to give credit where it's due. Dangote has built an empire that creates jobs and boosts the economy. Instead of just criticizing, let's focus on how we can support local businesses and hold them accountable while also recognizing their contributions to Nigeria's growth. 2 Likes |
