PRESS RELEASE
IGP HOLDS VIRTUAL MEETING WITH FALANA, EBUN, MEMBERS OF TAKE IT BACK MOVEMENT

Advises Group to Avoid Street Procession, Liaise with Respective State Police Commissioners

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, on 30th July, 2024, held a constructive virtual meeting with Femi Falana (SAN), Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN) and other key members of the Take It Back Movement in light of the planned nationwide protest as part of the Nigeria Police Force's efforts aimed at ensuring the safety and security of all citizens while upholding the constitutional right to peaceful assembly.

During the meeting, the IGP emphasized the importance of maintaining public order and safety during the planned protests. He acknowledged the group's right to express their concerns through peaceful protests and reiterated the Police Force's duty to facilitate such rights within the bounds of the law.

To this end, the IGP has advised the Take It Back Movement, who have indicated their interest to protest, to engage with the respective State Police Commissioners to coordinate and plan the protests in a manner that ensures the safety of participants and the general public, while pre-empting any security challenges and ensuring that the protests proceed peacefully. Additionally, the IGP strongly advised against unplanned open and unnecessary processions due to the potential dangers they pose. He stressed that organizing and coordinating with the Police and other security agencies are essential steps to mitigate risks, protect the rights of all citizens, and protect the well-being of all involved.

The Inspector-General of Police while reiterating that the Force remains dedicated to protecting the rights of all citizens and ensuring that all public gatherings are conducted safely and securely, calls on stakeholders to work together to foster a peaceful and secure environment during the planned protests.

The Take It Back Movement is one of Omoyele Sowore's movements. He is organising this protest to mark the 5th anniversary of his Revolution Now protest.

I hope the organizers see through these hypocrisies and decipher that this is another psychological operation (psy-op) towards weakening the protest. We'll soon hear that the FG has budgeted ₦50B to buy snacks and water for protesters. grin
Mace0lane:
Are you Igbo ?!
I asked because Igbo said you do not want to be part of the protest.
No, I'm not.
Mace0lane:
Swear that God should punish your father is you are. We both agree that you are not so swearing should be easy for you as it will just be for formality.
Nigeria has more than 500 ethnic groups and you Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo think you're the only ones on Nairaland??

Every administration seems to have at least one of this kind of person.

The claim that Peter Obi is behind the protest is false.

Yes, Obidients might be planning to capitalise on the protest, but they are not at the core of the planned protest.

This protest is being organised by Omoyele Sowore.

He is planning it to mark the 5th anniversary of his previous protest. In 2019 Sowore called for a Revolution and began the "Revolution Now" movement. That's why the Buhari Administration arrested him, because it said that calling for a revolution is treasonous.

Omoyele Sowore planned to begin the protest from the National Stadium. I believe that he had previously planned to use other venues, but the owners turned him down when they discovered what he wanted to use it for. The National Stadium, Surulere initially agreeed to host the event, but they also cancelled it when they discovered what he wanted to do.

Eventually Sowore decided to hold it under the bridge outside the National Stadium. However, the police broke up the protest, fired teargas and arrested some people (some groups had already pulled out of the protest before the D-day).

Sowore wants to mark the 5th anniversary of that protest by holding another protest.

Like all protests in Nigeria, some people will plan to hijack it or capitalise on it. Some Obidients are planning to capitalise on the protest.

But Peter Obi is not behind the protest.

Many Nigerians currently gearing up for the protest do not even know who and who is leading them. They sha want to hit the street on the 1st of August to vent their anger. Such a poorly organized protest is bound to lead to looting and violence.
