Throwback:

If you do not want the government to get its hand on taxes, have you also asked the government to stop all spending on infrastructure and services?

Nigeria is now practicing what we go to enjoy in the "saner climes", but as usual, we do not want sanity in Nigeria.

No one should escape paying taxes, even on sudden windfall.

You are talking like you were born recently,
Any government who wants to do any major project should embark on it first there after a charge back on citizens can follow,

These politicians steals our generations future on a daily basis and you want to trust them with tax?

The biggest mistake the Nigerian people made was to allow him to be one to them after his eight-year debacle in Lagos State. The people would have benefitted a whole lot more from electing Sowore or any of the other unknowns on the ballot in last 2023 election. undecided

In a democratic setting, numbers/majority matters a lot when it comes to electing political office holders.

Majority of Nigerians elected Tinubu. What makes you think that was the “biggest mistake”?

People have made their choices. A lot of people that voted him into power believes in him, and as such are still sticking with him.

“His debacle in Lagos”? Can you please tell us the exact debacle you talked about?

Of the 3 presidential candidates during the last presidential election, which of them is more qualified to occupy the seat?

If I could remember correctly, didn’t they all promise to end fuel subsidy?

Now, back to the tax topic. Don’t you pay taxes where you currently reside?

Can you also tell us what the federal minimum wage is in the country you reside?

While at it, make sure you also tell us the cost of goods and services…. And then let’s compare it with the earnings and cost of living in Nigeria.

Let’s all try to be constructive in our criticisms.

The problem of inflation that Nigeria is having today is not because of the the removal of subsidy Zombie.
The problem of inflation we have today is as a result of the landslide devaluation of the Naira embarked upon by Tinubu. Who devalues her currency by over 400% within a year in an import dependent economy and will not see the mother of all inflation.

A windfall tax is a one-time tax imposed by a government on companies or individuals that have experienced an unexpected and significant financial gain, often due to circumstances beyond their control. The term "windfall" refers to a sudden, unexpected gain or profit.

Windfall taxes are often levied in response to unusual or extraordinary events, such as:

1. Natural disasters: Governments may impose a windfall tax on companies that have profited from disaster relief efforts or have experienced increased demand for their products or services due to the disaster.
2. Economic shocks: Windfall taxes may be imposed on companies that have benefited from economic shocks, such as sudden changes in global market prices or unexpected shifts in government policies.
3. Unforeseen events: Governments may impose windfall taxes on companies that have profited from unforeseen events, such as a sudden increase in demand for a particular product or service.

The purpose of a windfall tax is to:

1. Redistribute wealth: Windfall taxes aim to redistribute wealth from companies or individuals who have experienced an unexpected gain to the broader population or to support public programs.
2. Prevent profiteering: Windfall taxes can help prevent companies from profiteering from unusual circumstances, ensuring that they do not take advantage of consumers or the situation.
3. Raise revenue: Windfall taxes can generate significant revenue for governments, which can be used to fund public programs or support affected communities.

Examples of windfall taxes include:

1. The UK's Windfall Tax (1997): Imposed on privatized utilities that had experienced significant profits due to deregulation.
2. The US's Excess Profits Tax (1940s): Imposed on companies that had profited from World War II-related government contracts.
3. Argentina's Windfall Tax (2020): Imposed on companies that had profited from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Overall, windfall taxes are a tool used by governments to address unusual circumstances and ensure that unexpected gains are shared fairly.

What is this one saying sef.Is this not the same thing you guys said when he made the erroneous announcement that subsidy is gone? When we voiced out shey you guys said we were enemies of the state.Today has that announcement birthed any positive impact or have they truly stopped paying the subsidy?

Nigerians are tired of proactive steps every time.Nigerians want results.A cup of beans is 500 Naira.A litre of fuel is over 800 Naira. But they have mind to appropriate 21 billion naira for the new Vice president villa and still procure a presidential jet in this tough time.

Windfall tax is just an avenue to recoup and have nire returns for the financial investment they made in the last election.

This administration is yet to demonstrate prudence in the management of Nigeria's commonwealth.

If he does trust me I will be the first to blow his trumpet.I have no allegiance to any political party but my allegiance is for a better Nigeria.

Philipponzaghi:
Another solid move by President Tinubu!

Engaging with bank executives shows he’s committed to ensuring the financial sector is on board with the windfall tax.

Let’s be real, we need a leader who understands the economy and is willing to take bold steps for our nation's growth.

This is the kind of proactive governance we need. While others are busy complaining, Tinubu is busy making the tough calls. Keep pushing forward!
