The Presidential Candidate of Accord Party in the 2023 election, Prof Christopher Imumolen says time has come for the President Bola Tinubu-led federal government to sell hope to Nigerians in view of the challenges ravaging the country.

This comes as groups have been mobilizing support on the social media to draw the attention of the federal government to what they tag escalating hardship, increasing cost of living and drastic reduction in living standard, as well as insecurity.

The federal government in response to the planned protest has however urged the organisers to consider dropping the plan, saying the President Bola Tinubu-led administration is making efforts to address their demands.

Recall that the federal government had approved the release of 20 trucks of rice to each of the 36 states of the federation for distribution among needy citizens.

Additionally, the government has also approved the N70,000 minimum wage bill brought before it by the National Assembly for commencement of implementation, a policy believed to be aiming at enhancing the take-home pay of workers across the country.

Also, the federal government said it has set up centres for citizens to purchase 50kg of rice at a 50% discounted race to help families have more to feed.

But beyond these, Prof. Imumolen, a vocal youth advocate believes the nation's leader should engage with citizens in a robust communication and sell hope to them.

In a video release, Prof. Imumolen said the government is facing its challenges but despite that, citizens need hope to sustain them.

"Hope is that thing you look up to, even when you are faced with critical times, you'll have that hope that very soon, we will be out of this.

"The only way that hope will come is for the President to begin to engage and continously assure Nigerian youths that, look, we understand what you're going through, we know that things have not been going right, but there is hope.

"These are the things we are doing to put things right, just bear with us. That communication cannot be overemphasized, it must be on continous basis, Mr. President must use this time to talk to Nigerian youths, and begin to engage through the media", he advised.

He said the social media that has become a tool to spread this protests must also be used to counter the protest promoters by sending message of hope to all Nigerians.

The political activist urged President Bola Tinubu to consider running an all inclusive government and embrace Nigerians with capacity and intellectual wherewithal to support in building this nation.

He urged that political appointments should not be based on reward but a deliberate effort to incorporate people who have with it takes to contribute meaningfully in various sectors of the nation's economy and deliver results.

They should sell hope to Nigeria while they are eating the hope and the future of Nigerian citizens. They give you hope and it the fruits of the hope. We don't need hope but actions. I have my own hope let government do what they were elected for.

The Nigerian government has consistently demonstrated an alarming disregard for the welfare of its citizens, a pattern that has only worsened under the Tinubu administration. The recent decision to remove all subsidies at once, rather than phasing them out gradually, epitomizes this reckless and idiotic approach to governance. This move has plunged the nation into deeper economic turmoil and exacerbated the suffering of millions of Nigerians already grappling with poverty and hardship.

The removal of fuel subsidies, which provided a crucial buffer for the average Nigerian, has resulted in skyrocketing prices for basic goods and services. The government’s justification for this abrupt action, under the guise of fiscal responsibility and economic reform, is a slap in the face to the citizenry. A phased approach, allowing for gradual adjustments and providing time for alternative measures to cushion the blow, would have been the rational and humane choice. But rationality and humanity seem to be foreign concepts to this administration.

In addition to the subsidy debacle, the Tinubu administration has taken other nonsensical measures that defy logic and basic economic principles. The sudden devaluation of the Naira, without adequate preparation or support for the local economy, has further eroded the purchasing power of Nigerians. The introduction of new taxes and levies, in an already strained economic environment, has added salt to the wounds of businesses and individuals alike. These measures reveal a government that is out of touch with the realities faced by its people.

The so-called economic reforms touted by Tinubu’s team are nothing but hollow rhetoric. The administration’s failure to address rampant corruption, improve infrastructure, and create sustainable jobs is glaringly obvious. Instead, they choose to implement draconian policies that burden the average Nigerian while the political elite continue to live in opulence. The disconnect between the government and the governed has never been more apparent.

Furthermore, the lack of citizen-friendly policies extends to every facet of governance. Health care remains abysmal, with hospitals lacking basic supplies and personnel. Education is in shambles, with underfunded schools and poorly paid teachers. Security is a joke, with citizens living in constant fear of banditry, kidnappings, and insurgency. Yet, the government’s response to these crises is woefully inadequate, often characterized by empty promises and ineffective actions.

The Tinubu administration’s approach to governance is nothing short of disastrous. The blatant disregard for the well-being of Nigerians, the implementation of ill-conceived policies, and the perpetuation of systemic corruption are damning indictments of their leadership. The government’s actions, or lack thereof, are not just idiotic; they are cruel and unforgivable.

The Nigerian government must abandon its callous and incompetent ways. It must prioritize the welfare of its citizens, implement thoughtful and phased economic policies, and genuinely tackle the issues that plague the nation. The time for excuses is over. The Nigerian people deserve a government that truly works for them, not against them.
