One week after Nigeria’s Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission imposed a $220 million fine on WhatsApp for a data privacy breach, the Meta-owned company may suspend its operations in the country due to further regulatory demands.

Sources close to the situation indicate that Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, is contemplating withdrawing certain services from Nigeria.

Alongside the substantial fine, the FCCPC has directed WhatsApp to cease sharing user data with other Facebook companies and third parties without explicit user consent. The commission also requires WhatsApp to disclose details about its data collection practices and to enhance user control over data usage.

All these huge tech companies mining data for free and running adverts in our cyberspace for 'FREE" should be taxed.

AI is out guys, be careful what information you say about yourself. Once you answer any question online, FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM, WHATSAPP, TWITTER anywhere, it gets recorded against your identity for life, even if you delete that account. They can still pull it up.All your whatsapp messages are stored in a database. And if you always carry a phone, they know exactly where you are, makes drone attacks very precise.They have traded free apps to violate our privacy.

If we had leaders, who knew what was going on, they would have warned and protected us.

An example of bad governance we should be protesting about.
They will have to lay off workers if they pay that kind of fine which is almost their market share in Nigeria. That is not fine and realistic at all.
