This was made known in its press release signed by the Taskforce Coordinator, Olóyè Akolawole Shoremi and issued to pressmen in commemoration of the 2024 World Day against Trafficking in Persons, yesterday August 2, 2024. Addressing the theme for this year's commemoration, 'LEAVE NO CHILD BEHIND IN THE FIGHT AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING', Shoremi recounted the efforts of the State Government in recent times, which includes ongoing institutionalization of its Taskforce, advocacy visits to Stakeholders, and partnership with international partners to stem the tide of human trafficking. “On February 6, 2024, we had the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Government Secondary School, Gwarimpa Abuja, with one of our partners, the International Center for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) on a project tagged Schools Anti—Trafficking Education and Advocacy Project. “The STEAP initiative, in collaboration with the national and state commands of NAPTIP as well as the State Taskforces on Human Trafficking, will support the government of Nigeria in the fight against human trafficking through increased awareness in Ogun Schools and Communities. “In line with the theme for this year's commemoration of the World Day against Trafficking in Persons, our ongoing projects will support instructional programming within our Schools and promote School clubs in the awareness of the scourge of irregular migration and smuggling of migrants. “The Governor had given a mandate to the Taskforce to ensure Ogun State has a zero tolerance for human trafficking related crimes. All efforts are on deck towards creating safer communities for our Children and young people,” Shoremi said. The release further stated that the Government will continuously pursue anti-trafficking objectives including the creation of policies that support prevention, protection, prosecution and partnership towards combating the ills of human trafficking.
