**Aja Amaeze, Ebonyi State - 31st July 2024:**

In a significant stride towards improving healthcare access, Hon. Onu Ukpai, the representative of Ohaozara West Constituency in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, was honored with the title of Health Insurance Ambassador by the Ebonyi State Health Insurance Agency (EBSHIA). The award ceremony took place at Aja Amaeze, Uburu, where Hon. Onu Ukpai also launched a groundbreaking initiative to provide one year of free medical care to over 160 constituents suffering from various ailments.

The event saw the enrollment of 165 individuals into the health scheme, marking a momentous occasion for the people of Uburu. HRH Akpandu, Ibom II of Enu Uburu Autonomous Community, lauded Hon. Onu Ukpai's initiative, emphasizing its potential to enhance access to medical services and improve the overall health of the community. "Health is wealth," he remarked, "and a healthier Uburu Community will translate into a wealthier society."

Madam Nkechinyere Njoku, leading the delegation of health professionals from EBSHIA and representing Dr. Divine Igwe, praised the initiative's alignment with the efforts of the Ebonyi State Government under their Excellencies, Rt. Hon. Ogbonna Nwifuru and Chief Mrs. Uzoamaka Nwifuru, the Founder of BERWO. She highlighted that the free medical treatment would cover surgeries for conditions such as hernia, appendicitis, elephantiasis, and other neglected diseases. Njoku expressed optimism that this initiative would help reduce untimely deaths and improve regular access to medical care, thus furthering Senator Engr. David Nweze Umahi's healthcare ambitions for Ndi Uburu.

Speaking to the media, Hon. Onu Ukpai expressed joy and fulfillment at the successful launch of the health scheme. Reflecting on the inspiration behind the initiative, he shared, "I attended a health seminar in Enugu organized by EBSHIA. After learning about the benefits of health insurance, I resolved to bring this scheme to my constituency to address the issue of people dying due to their inability to afford medical bills."

Hon. Onu Ukpai also announced plans to enroll another group of beneficiaries after the first year, ensuring continuous support for his constituents. The current beneficiaries, selected by village heads and traditional rulers from the 14 villages in Uburu, include aged men, women, and children, ensuring that those most in need receive this crucial support.

Beneficiaries voiced their gratitude, praising the scheme and praying for Hon. Onu Ukpai for his timely and compassionate intervention. The event, which attracted notable dignitaries, including HRH Uchechukwu Onu, Okenze II of Etiti Uburu, other high chiefs, the President General of Eweze Uburu Town Union Mr. Nicholas Enyi, and various village leaders, culminated in a sumptuous reception at Hon. Onu Ukpai's residence.

The ceremony underscored Hon. Onu Ukpai's commitment to redefining constituency representation and making a tangible difference in the lives of his people. This health scheme represents a beacon of hope and progress for the Uburu community, setting a precedent for effective and compassionate governance.
