We demand nothing less than impeachement now that the honourable has been indicted, otherwise pre-ordinance and first decree will be viewed as law of children.

The House of Representative panel set up to investigate the N628 million contract scam rocking the National Assembly today submitted its report to the full House with a guilty verdict on the Speaker Patricia Olubunmi Etteh.

The David Idoko committee found Speaker Etteh guilty of misappropriation of funds and many other allegations leveled against her.

Details are still sketchy but the Speaker is expected to resign rather than face impeachment by the full House.
Re: Speaker Of House Of Rep Indicted by chidichris(m): 5:02pm On Sep 26, 2007
impeachment and resignition is not the issue here but selective justice is the watchword.
we want to see an active efcc with their official cars parked outside the house in waiting for the end of her time as the speaker and the immediate arrest of the woman criminal as it was in the days of alams.
we do not want to see a situation where she will be removed from been the speaker of the house of reps and be made the speaker of house of assembly tomorrow.
again, because we believe efcc, we want to see them trace her assension to office and all the parties involved and bring them to book for the introduction of a common criminal as a law maker.
by the way, how can this kind of person exist in a gov that is fighting corruption?
all the same, this ur report here is one of the two expected reports so we can only wait till the second report comes like it happened in the case of atiku and obj.
i am saying there will not be any headway as the woman belongs to the almighty selector(obj)

Chidichris

Can you say anything without OBJ coming out of your mouth? Please grow up and
put an end to your daily childish rant. In your imagination, its like a fly doesn't move
in Nigeria without OBJ saying so.

What is good for the goose is also good for the gander, that is, what is good for Oyii (Dr. Chuba Okadigbo) and Adolphus Wabara is also good for Patricia Etteh.

Iyke-d,
when people say the truth, i don't go fighting them no matter how painful the truth might be to me.
i am not going to drop that name obj till he drops nigeria. he has decided to hold tight to power with or without the consent of the people and you and i know too well that whatsoever happens in this present regime will be traced to obj.
be informed that since the incedence of this renovation scandal, he(obj) has been holding series of meetings to save the speaker.
obj forced yar adua and co on us so we will always call upon him whenever there is any need.
obj took away our voting rights hence we did not vote the people into power and for this reason they have decided not to look at our face in their leadership responsibilities so they are all accountable to obj so through him we will lay our complains.
again, the ruling pdp has a board of trustees of which obj is the chairman so whatsoever decision important or useless must pass through the board and in reality and practise, this board is the ruling machine of nigeria and the chairman is obj so tell me five(5) reasons why i will not mention his name 1000 times in a day.
also iyke tell me who to call if not the idiot man who believes he loves us more than we love ourselves. since he has decided not to stay away as other else presidents, let us be calling his name till he sleep off.
Iyke-D, u have to be happy that i am not mentioning your father's name here. why are u worried over obj when obj himself has said it many times that he is ready to die for nigeria.
pls be informed that he is indirectly serving his third term agenda which nigerians refused in the open so do not be worried or are u ready to die for obj?

The men in the house, for once, have acted honourably. Atleast madam speaker will now understand better that there is a great difference between cosmetology and political science/govt. grin

Congrats democracy!

So what next? will the indictment lead to impeachment? I sincerely hope it does.
Re: Speaker Of House Of Rep Indicted by boladez(m): 7:23pm On Sep 26, 2007
I am happy that this is the beginning of good things to come in Nigeria. Our Psyche seems to be getting better. I was appalled when some of the pro speaker guys introduced the tribal and gender sentiments.

Its most irresponsible for a leader to spend that huge amount on "Renovation" or "Upgrade" of her official residence in a country without basic infrastructure. Hope they would be able to prosecute her on possible criminal charges.

This is a clear reflection of the rot in the expensive and BIG govt we run in our Nigerian democracy, come to think of it can't we do without one, of the two legislative houses and  scrap of the state legislatures and even the LGs, these are just conduits for siphoning and wasting public funds.
Re: Speaker Of House Of Rep Indicted by angel101(f): 7:44pm On Sep 26, 2007
Especially the LG's!! total waste

This woman should not only be indicted and impeached, she must feel the full wrath of the law. I am ashamed that the people of her constituency, "AYEDAADE/ISOKAN/IREWOLE" Federal Constituency of Osun state have not re-called her. Perhaps she is representing satisfactorily.

This woman must spend at least 2 years in jail.

The other time, Ngige was guilty of rigging elections and his punishment was to have the Governorship taken from him. What kind of justice is that?

Somebody will steal a goat and the punishment will be to have the goat confiscated? Abeg, this time I want to see action. Let her be sent to a make prison so that she can have 98 men giving her body massage.
Re: Speaker Of House Of Rep Indicted by debosky(m): 8:11pm On Sep 26, 2007
cool your jets Denex, she has been indicted for not following due process - what is the penalty for that under the law?

If it is imprisonment, then I agree - lock her up forthwith, but as most of the other legislative cases, the worst she will get is impeachment, even worse, she might simply be censured and that will be the end of the story.

It is highly unfortunate that she got herself mixed up in this mess, she should've known better.
Re: Speaker Of House Of Rep Indicted by deor03(m): 8:42pm On Sep 26, 2007

especially from women groups, afenifere etc

Re: Speaker Of House Of Rep Indicted by azorjiu(m): 10:01pm On Sep 26, 2007
Who will stand for her defence? None.

Since her position has become untenable,
nigerians demand that she spends what's left of
her tenure as the speaker in jail. Indictment may
have any meaning since after her death
(of course all of us will die one day; i don't predict
or wish her dead), the indictment will
be quashed to allow the then generation of
law makers to accord her all the privileges and
entitlements as a former
speaker, after all;

Senate quashes Enwerem's impeachment

The Senate on Wednesday vacated the impeachment of its former leader, Evan Enwerem, to allow it accord him all the privileges and entitlements as former Senate President. It also resolved to sit in a joint session with the House of Representatives on Thursday at a valedictory session in honour of the late lawmaker. The Senate Majority leader, Teslim Folarin, who moved the motion argued that it became imperative in view of the need for the hallowed chamber to only not participate in the burial ceremony of Enwerem, but also pay him due respect. The Act that provided for remuneration of former Presidents, Vice Presidents, Senate Presidents and Speakers of the House of Representatives barred all impeached officers from benefiting. The Guardian gathered that this might have informed the move. But Senator Jubril Aminu, in a counter motion, asked the Senate to tread with care in vacating the impeachment, pointing out that it could amount to setting dangerous precedent. He said it was important that the reasons for the impeachment of Enwerem must be determined first before a decision could be taken on reversing it. Senate Chief Whip, Senator Kanti Bello, who seconded the counter motion, stated that there was no provision

I watched the fisticuffs video at length yesterday and, at the end, when the panel was said to have decreed they would only continue working behind closed doors, I said to myself "oh boy, another convenient stitch-up is underway as Madam Speaker will now be given free reign to batter her way to justification".

So, I'm definitely pleasantly surprised at the near-unanimous verdict. As a useful first step, this indictment will be gazzetted for all to see.
Re: Speaker Of House Of Rep Indicted by chidichris(m): 11:15am On Sep 27, 2007
i still have my fears that there will be second report which will favour her and then both will be suspended for the big show down.
again, marwar had case with efcc and he was mearnt to refund some funds and forefiet his presidential ambition but today marwar is an ambassadore in the making. this woman in question will end up being a special adviser to yar adua on corruption matters that is if her indictment gets the necessary approvals and backings.
let us wait while the major dramas unfold.
