3 Years high or declining..... We already achieved this feat like 2019-2020.... We should be aiming 20000 or More now... This shouldn't even be publized Cos it disgraceful For a country of over 250million citizens |

Sometimes,it's good to read before commenting. It says the highest in 3 years and you're bringing an information of 4 years ago. I thought as you saw such news, you will encourage them to do more . You mustn't always bring out negative comments from a positive news. It's high time we pray for the betterment of Nigeria irrespective of who leads the nation MasterJayJay: |

This is what we get for 80% of the consumer base paying below the production cost. 5150 is what we have...meanwhile the experts say we need 33000MW for everyone to have light. Some even said Lagos alone needs 10000mw for 24 hour light...Lagos the city, not the state. I know...people are poor, but at the end of the day, poverty or no poverty, if I was buying yam from a yam seller, and he says N4000 per tuber and I give him N1000 and tell him to forget the remaining N3000 because poverty...where is he going to pay the farmer, the middleman, the transporter costs, even things like market levy, his kids school fees, his wife's cooking money and any debts and liabilites he has...to say nothing of taxes, and money for dependents.? It's the same thing for the power sector. We want 24 hours power, yet 40% of us do not pay for the power we use, and 80% Of us pay under the cost of producing that power....and we then act all surprised, when we can't get 24 hour light. It's almost like most people in this country think that by fighting corruptuion alone, we would have all the money we need. YES WE SHOULD AND MUST FIGHT CORRUPTION....but at the end, underpay a worker, and don't be surprised if he gives underwork. 1 Like 1 Share |

Chetas81: That's the gross generation, which is a different measure from installed capacity which is around 2800 mw for Ivory coast. Ivory coast does not sell power below production cost...and they totally privatised their power sector in the 1990's. Even then compared to Ivory coast, our gross generation is 36.4 thousand GWh, which is more than that of Ivory coast. We sell some power to CIV and other african countries...but it is like 6% of our generation. 1 Like 1 Share |

Nigeria needs a whole Lot of power to function well, about 40000to 60000mw is needed to feed the nation, To accurately estimate the power required for 250 million people, we need to consider several factors: * Average power consumption per household: This varies significantly based on factors like location, lifestyle, appliance usage, and energy efficiency. * Household size distribution: Not all households have exactly four people. * Commercial and industrial power consumption: This accounts for businesses, factories, and other non-residential power usage. * Power losses in transmission and distribution: Energy is lost as it travels from power plants to consumers. Making Simplifying Assumptions: Given the complexity of the problem, we'll make some simplifying assumptions to get a rough estimate: * Average household size: 4 people * Average power consumption per household: 1,000 watts (This is a very rough estimate and can vary widely.) * No commercial or industrial power consumption: We're focusing solely on residential power. * No power losses: This will overestimate the required power. Calculations: * Total number of households: * 250 million people / 4 people/household = 62.5 million households * Total power consumption: * 62.5 million households * 1,000 watts/household = 62.5 billion watts * Conversion to megawatts: * 62.5 billion watts / 1,000,000 watts/megawatt = 62,500 megawatts Important Considerations and Refinements: * Power consumption varies greatly: The actual power consumption per household can range from significantly less to much more than 1,000 watts. * Commercial and industrial power: This is a substantial portion of overall power consumption and should be included for a more accurate estimate. * Power factor: This is a measure of the efficiency of electrical power utilization. * Load factor: This represents the average power load over a period of time compared to peak load. * Energy storage: Incorporating energy storage systems can help manage peak demand and improve grid efficiency. Invarably based on our simplified assumptions, a rough estimate of the power required for 250 million people with an average household size of four is 62,500 megawatts. However, this is a very preliminary figure. A more accurate estimate would require detailed data on power consumption patterns, household sizes, commercial and industrial loads, and other factors. 1 Like 1 Share |

MasterJayJay: Because you do not want to accept the truth. A big reason why we don't have power is because 1. Subsidised prices over the decades 2. People not paying for power they use...and that includes the rich and the government Oga, let's forget about politics, and forget about who supports who......if you were a farmer and people did not pay you full price for your crops, where are you going to get the resources and equipment for next planting season. Or if you owned a school, and half your pupils did not pay school fees, and one quarter paid fees partially in the last year, how would you pay for your materials, equipment and so on for next year. And then taxes, salaries, and so forth? That is how we have been shortchanging our power sector for decades and that is why we don't have up to 30000MW after over 80 years of power generation in this country. You can call it blaming people, etc....and excusing government. The fact is, government messed up by not running power as a profit making concern, and the people mess up by treating it as free gift...meanwhile mainteance, expansion and so forth have to be paid for. But you don't want to face that, because like most people on this site, when confronted with contrary ideas, your best response is to be abusive, because you got no response. It's just a matter of them before they come out to say it collapsed again... and again and again dropping below unreasonable level. And you think do not have right to protest. What is there to celebrate in this country? |
