A halo is a rainbow around the sun and is an extremely rare phenomenon, and there are no reliable estimates for how often it occurs. Reports of this phenomenon are usually associated with the presence of ice crystals in the atmosphere, so it is more likely to be seen in cold climates. These are very common when we have high cirrus clouds in the atmosphere.
