In December 2023, Archbishop Alexander Ibezim took over the ownership of Paul University. Despite significant funds, allegedly over 300 million naira, raised by priests and parishioners, which was intended to clear some salary arrears from April 2020 (COVID-19) to December 2024, he has refused to pay these arrears. The funds gathered reflected a deep concern and commitment from the Anglican community in Awka towards the plight of the staff of the University.
