Over time, there's been a bit of debate as to which is better, buying or renting a car. But as much as this is quite an argument, I'd say whichever is best will be subject to the individual involved. And to that effect, join me as I walk you through its pros and cons.

So, if you're renting a car, you get to have a variety of vehicles at your disposal without any plan for long-term commitment. You get to choose a particular car for that special occasion, be it an SUV or a regular sedan. Unlike owning a car, where you have the freedom to drive as much as you want, for as long as you want, you don't get to pay any extra charges for any extended use, and, of course, no extra mileage limits, which is a good advantage if you like to drive long distances regularly.

Also, for many, there's this emotional satisfaction owning a car provides. It's that sense of pride and accomplishment. It's a clear representation of personal freedom and success, and not just a means of transportation. And if you're renting a car, you don't have to worry about its value depreciating over time. And as much as depreciation can significantly reduce the resale value of a purchased car, you don't have any concerns in that regard if you're renting it.

However, if you plan to keep a car for several years, if you happen to be the type that drives very regularly, buying a car will be more cost-effective. And that's because the cost of renting can exceed the cost of an outright purchase, and if you're not Otedola or an Adeleke, you might not be able to afford it. Owning a car also lets you enjoy the luxury of customizing your car to your taste. You get to add several extra accessories and modify it to suit your lifestyle. That's a feat of flexibility renting won't give you. I mean, imagine renting a shirt from somebody, only to go and slim-fit it... You don buy market be that o. Lol.

As much as I personally think the advantages of owning a car outweigh renting one, it also depends on the circumstances surrounding the situation, like how often you want to drive, finances, and when flexibility. While renting a car offers lower upfront costs, owning one can be a better long-term investment, especially for those who like to drive often and would prefer to have a car they can customize to taste and call their own.
