The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited says it is seeking to engage reputable and credible Operations and Maintenance companies, to operate and maintain the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company and the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company.

This was disclosed in a statement on Friday on its official social media handle.

The Warri refinery located at Warri in Delta State was commissioned in 1978. Warri is a complex conversion refinery with a nameplate distillation capacity of 6,250,000 MTA (125,000 bpd). The refinery complex includes a petrochemical plant commissioned in 1988 with production capacities of 13,000 MTA of polypropylene and 18,000 MTA of carbon black. The refinery is meant to supply markets in the south and southwest regions of Nigeria.

On its part, the Kaduna refinery was commissioned in 1980 to supply petroleum products to Northern Nigeria with a capacity of 50,000 B/D. In 1983, the capacity was expanded to 100,000 B/D by adding a second 50,000 B/D crude train dedicated to the production of lubricating oils (lubes). In 1986, the capacity of the first crude train was expanded to 60,000 B/D. The expansions have increased the current nameplate capacity of the refinery to 110,000 B/D.

They should have done this since 1800 but its fine to do that now

Under a private operator, we can be sure of increased production over the next 12months as private firms tend to keep pushing their operational capacity to the extreme in a bid to secure bigger profits

Demands will be met and we may not experience fuel scarcity again.

Kyari thought this through and it sounded sane to him. It does to me too

Kudos

Whatever will make fuel available & affordable for Nigerians.

Problem is that most seemingly good schemes in this country never work out as intended.

Obasanjo attempted something like this, it was reversed by Yaradua, I hope the next government will not reverse the concession. Nigerian Government don't respect contracts

COMRADES are speechless, heist of all times, Tinubu and APC have nothing to offer Nigerians
The process of taking over won't be transparent, the president's cronies will be the ones to take over

What a shame!

What if the new owners form a cartel or oligopoly and decide to sell fuel at astronomically high prices like N2,000+ per liter? How would people survive.

So Thièfnubu has finally sold public property to himself. Same thing Thièfnubu accused Atiku Abubakar years back.

Truth is, Nigeria currently has the world most prolific criminal as president.

So indirectly undecided the timeline of operation is not possible again abil
So after wasting billions on repair work, upgrading, training, etc and promising operation to resume before year ending undecided this is the next lie

Kaduna refinery is almost useless to any potential buyer. Any investor who falls for it might end up committing investment suicide

I would have been happy with this news, but it just may turn out to be another avenue to vandalize the assets and fleece the nation's resources. It has happened before at Ajaokuta and Ikot Abasi (ALSCON).
I just hope I'd be proven wrong!

Re: NNPCL To Hand Over Warri, Kaduna Refineries To Private Operators by Zico5(m): 12:07pm
Tinubu is truly cooking something and I'm very sure he cannot survive what will happen to him after leaving government. He should corner whatever he can and enjoy the loot for the next 2+ years and the rest will be story. So his aim is just to take over Nigeria assets the way he did to Lagos state properties. Did this man think he will live forever. Did he think Nigerians are fools. All the assets they have privatised are in bad condition. Power holding company is degenerating on daily basis despite masses paying astronomical wages on it. It shall not be well with all of them.
