[quote author=RhinoChest post=131795294]I think the next phase is mass metering which the Minister of Power said is about to take effect.

2 million meters a year, which is being finalised.

But fellow Nigerians, if we want good things, we should be ready to pay for it.

I think if the infrastructure gets robust enough to make light constant and uninterrupted, prices overall will come down but could take some years.

Minister of power, keep working. 6,000 MW by December and do a road to 12,000 MW by Dec Next year.

TCN ought to work harder to complete their projects, make it more robust with bigger evacuation carrying capacity and safeguard it.

They should tell NASS to pass a vandalism act if none exist, and have some security operatives deployed to guard their critical assets, and they pay the security operatives from their budget. The security operatives will get specialised training in surveillance, patrols, aerial reconnaissance and to use deadly force on vandals caught in the act.

[ Rhetorics and more Rhetorics that what we Nigerians are very good at, especially if you are feeding fat from the decaying system. I still remembered Fashola saying 'provision of steady powersupply in Nigeria is not a Rocket Science'
But as at today , Provision & availability of basic electricity iited like meter is a nuclear science........SMH .. What a country!!!!?

Mummiesboy:
No difference between the power holding company and the Nigerian police, they are thieves with government backing.
Over the past decade, statistics proved beyond doubt that NEPA
(prefare to use former name for emphasis) is more corrupt than the police.
With this current APC government that is not frugal but wants the common people to tighten their belts,I am afraid, situation may not be kind to the people.

Tinubu need to teach obidients more lessons.Tinubu need to impose tax on oxygen they breathe in, carbon dioxide they breath out, every word they speak and every foot steps they make. Only APC supporters and core Batist should be excluded. Tinubu is the world best president 🥇🏆, Tinubu for life😁😁😁😁

I only got 100 unit of credit on each meter when I received mine (anyone knows how much is that in actual Naira?)
Each meter cost me145k. This is not including the other fees you pay, like registration and all. Even the person they will send to fix it collected 10k per meter. So the total cost is actually higher than what they wanted us to believe. It's over 230-250k for a single phase meter if you factor in all the other costs.

Witnessing the effect of two things

1. Not running an actively exporting economy that exports manufactured gooods and services...instead being so fixated on oil, that we have a very weak economy.

All NIgerian leaders (yes including GEJ, Buhari and tinubu...take that!) have been bad leaders largely because the economic policy is based essentially on the price of whatever resource we sell. This leaves us prone to debt and inflation and a very very weak naira...with the result that we have high prices of meters.

Lack of a decent industrial sector means even local industries have to import spares from outside the country. Here we are.

2. Meter workers too have to eat. Many meters are made here, and the workers too are subject to the issues in the economy. As a result....prices go up so that the meter workers who make your meters have to eat.

It would be silly really to sell meters for N20000 and expect people to make a living from the losses resulting therein

3. Frankly speaking...expecting government to subsidise everything on a budget of just 18 billion dollars....yes, you heard me right....is basically asking for more and more debt.

I mean, many countries have far far more cash than we do, but don't do subsides for everything...or try to do subsides for everything...like we do. They would be broke in no time

Even this meter thing...it is obvious that if government tried to subsidise it down to N20000 ......it would make them go broke.

That is why any decent government for Nigeria would not do what this APC government is doing...they would embark on a programme that would lead us to....manufactured goods and services, and a decent tax to gdp ratio.

Same silly excuses and defense lines all the time.

It's just madness at this point. Single phase meters used to he 29k and 3phase 49k or so, and this was like less than 3 years ago. Smh

in summary, from consumption to production, any Nigerian government that refuse to make this statement their vision and war cry will fail

I’m not feeding from it but they are making slight improvements.

We all know metering is key to make this sector blossom and few days ago, BPE signed meter contracts with the manufacturers.

If 2 million customers get metered this year, we are only have 5 million customers to go, so that’s progress.

Also, TCN has ongoing projects and they are relentless at getting them completed.

Debts are being paid to Gencos and their gas infrastructures are being upgraded. OB3 pipeline is nearing completion, even Dangote is excited about it because it will take gas from east to west, and to power stations that need gas. AKK is also about to be completed, and both are game changers.

Geregu power signed agreement with Siemens for more turbines and wants to expand.

Transcorp power pays dividends. All these are signs that the industry is growing.

Forget the politics and always follow the money.

Once uninterrupted liquidity starts to flow in the power sector, you will see uninterrupted power supply!!!

It’s not rocket science and it’s that simple!!

I paid ₦131,150 for each meter in my house and I paid for 5.

Before then, I paid 20k each for bill generation and I was told that I must buy a busbar before my meters could be approved which cost another 120k

Total spent for 5 meters in-house:
Busbar: ₦120,000
Bill generation: 20k * 5 = ₦100,000
Meter: 131,150 * 5 = ₦655,750

Total is ₦875, 750

To be honest, the person didn’t do anything, paid him in August, 2023 by July this year wrote an email to them to complain that for almost a year no show, the person who responded was top management and was kind enough, in two days the invoice was out. The so called facilitator was mooping I was the person calling him to give him information lol.
