The youths of Oriade Local Government have strongly condemned a recent petition filed by Hon. Kanmi Ajibola, describing it as “unwarranted” and “contrary to the interests of the people.” They have vowed to make their voices heard at the House of Assembly as soon as sessions resume, emphasizing their commitment to defending the rights of local citizens and ensuring that their interests are prioritized.

This condemnation follows Hon. Kanmi Ajibola’s filing of a petition against Sodiq Lawal Adewale, a well-known investigative journalist and online editor at Within Nigeria, along with Tunde Omole and Ogunsanya Olasunkanmi. The petition accuses Lawal and the others of defamation based on their public comments and criticisms of Ajibola.

In response, Lawal pointed out what he considers an irony in Ajibola’s actions, noting that Ajibola himself had been a vocal critic of previous administrations in Osun State, calling for improved governance and transparency.

“Hon. Kanmi Ajibola, like many weak leaders, has resorted to using the police to intimidate and suppress critics,” Lawal remarked.

The youths have argued that Hon. Ajibola’s petition is a deliberate attempt to stifle freedom of expression and intimidate those who dare to speak truth to power. They believe such actions are not only detrimental to the democratic values that the community upholds but also a dangerous precedent that could silence genuine voices of dissent. The youths maintain that a healthy democracy thrives on criticism, dialogue, and constructive debate, which Ajibola’s petition seeks to undermine.

Several youth leaders from various wards within the Oriade Local Government have expressed their dismay over the petition, calling it a gross misuse of political power. According to them, Ajibola’s action reveals a lack of understanding and respect for the fundamental rights of citizens. They have vowed to mobilize more youths to stand against what they see as an attempt to distract the public from critical issues affecting the community, such as unemployment, poor infrastructure, and lack of basic amenities.

In a statement, the youths reiterated their support for Lawal, Omole, and Ogunsanya, describing them as brave individuals who have taken it upon themselves to represent the interests of the people.

I strongly suggest we should have a policy that will subject everyone politician to psychiatric test to ascertain their mental fitness.
