Abeg Nairalanders
How much can i get an IBM Thinkpad with these specs
Pentium M
1.7ghz processor speed
40gb Hard drive space
256mb ram
wi-fi
dvd-cd rw combo (dvd writer)
128/256 vga ram
(I dont mind a fairly used one but please let it be very neat and in good condition)

It should be affordable and reasonable, i know the specs i'm asking for,
if any fellow nairalander has for sale let me know or if you have competitive substitutes let me know
I have a salesman in Computer village but I would like to compare prices.

Also even if you dont have for sale i would not mind ur advice on what you think the price should be.
Thanks a lot.

Hey Passworded,

Whats with the big secret in your ID wink.

The system you intend to purchase will sooner begin to thrash wildly in hunger for system resources. This of course is just my humble opinion.

If I were you I wont go with less than 1GB Ram and 80GB harddrive.

peace,

Brume

Passworded,

I am feeling your budget constraints and definitely understand/appreciate/respect that.

What applications do you intend to run on this laptop? You need to at least verify that you can run these apps trouble free before you commit your valuable funds.

Since you also have your sights set on a fairly used laptop -- I think you can still be picky about at least the RAM.

For the RAM, I absolutely wont go below 512MB of ram unless I am planning to replace the RAM very soon.

I say replace because if the current memory (i.e 256MB) fills all memory banks (or DIMMS), you may be unable to add to the existing RAM and need to replace them entirely. You also take a hit on the hard drive if you decide to replace that later.

One other thing, before you purchase the used system, it may be prudent to confirm what the total cost of the system will come to after adding the cost of the upgrades. You need to find that out now then do the math to figure out if you will be better of waiting until you can get what you can afford - rather than buying something that would need to be upgraded later at a significantly higher cost.

On many occasions (where a motherboard replacement was involved) I have found it cheaper to simply replace my system with a new one than to upgrade the existing one (total upgrade cost was too close to replacement cost). That has been my experience for what thats worth.

Anyhow, nuff said.

easy,

Brume
