If you are in love with the Honda brand, and you admire its universally acclaimed premium sedan - the Accord, and you are at the same time usually freaked out by a top quality SUV that is truly so called, then one can readily lay high odds that you will fall in love with this car (see photo above). Reason: It combines the basic characteristics of these vehicle types you love, plus the features of a high performing, far-going tourer, without losing the basic Accord identity!

It is called the Honda Accord Crosstour, and it has just been unleashed onto the Nigerian market by The Honda Place. Not entirely new in other markets, this new Accord variant is already creating ripples with its stand-out, aesthetically seductive looks. Crosstour is not only taking advantage of its car-based platform, it is also leveraging on the Accord V-6 Sedan’s top level refinement.

The new Accord Crosstour is a versatile crossover utility vehicle (CUV) which flaunts the maouevrability and luxury of a sedan, the pace of a crossover and the tailgate of a coupe, which was why while introducing the vehicle during a media launch recently at company’s showroom on Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, The Honda Place Director, Sales & Marketing, Deepak Dariyanani, said it is a unique, sophisticated and versatile end-product of lengthy surveys of the preferences of relevant car owners.

Available in EX and EX-L models, Accord Crosstour comes with a 3.5-litre i-VTEC V-6 engine with Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) for power and efficiency. Mated to a five-speed automatic transmission with paddle shift, the engine is highly rated for the ability to strike a beneficial balance between performance and fuel economy, and can achieve 0- 60 kilometres in 7. 5 seconds. It comes with real-time 4x4.

Honda Accord Crosstour’s sleek and aerodynamic silhouette is enhanced by the tapering roofline, the streamlined back-end, angled taillights and integrated rear spoiler. The wider and longer body of the Accord Crosstour has imbued it with more imposing presence. Other salient exterior features are angled HID headlights (with washer) and flush mounted fog lights, remote auto open windows/ sunroof, chrome door handles/dual exhaust pipe finisher, and an amazing 18-inch alloy wheel (with 225/60 R18 all-season tyres) for the EX-L model (17-inch alloy wheel for the EX).

Like the parent Accord sedan and a typical SUV, this new kid on the block has a premium quality interior that seats five adults comfortably, just as the cargo area is huge and versatile (can be altered according to the requirement of the user). The ivory leather interior trim has matching wooden inserts, while the front seats can be adjusted eight different ways fro the diver’s and four for the passenger’s. Remarkable is the driver’s seat memory set-up, which recognizes returns to the driver’s position as soon as he takes the seat. There are also memory side mirrors with reverse tilting capability, and cargo privacy cover. Navigation system is available in the higher trim level EX-L.

Just as the dual zone automatic air conditioner makes for easy-to-each independent controls, the premium audio system featuring six CD changer, USB & AUX jacks, four door speakers, two tweeters, one sub-woofer for a rich sound output and SVC (Speed Volume Compensation) changes volume depending on vehicle speed.
Safety technology includes the Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure, a Honda-exclusive body design that enhances occupant protection and crash compatibility in frontal collisions.

Additional safety equipment includes: Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®), commonly referred to as Electronic Stability Control; anti-lock brakes with electronic brake distribution and brake assist; side curtain airbags with a rollover sensor; driver’s and front passenger’s side airbags with passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS); dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags; and active front seat head restraints.
During emergency manouevres, VSA detects oversteer or understeer, and applies brakes to one or more wheels and reduce engine power.

One of the highpoints of the unveiling of the Accord Crosstour, was an impressive presentation on the car by The Honda Place Sales Manager, Gidado Ayodeji, who returned recently from a special course in Dubai.
