The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Limited has asked for office space for about 10 of its staff at Dangote Refinery as part of their crude supply deal.

According to Devakumar V. G. Edwin, Vice President, Oil & Gas, of Dangote Group, NNPC made the demand since they will be supplying the crude, overseeing the production, and buying back the products in Naira.

Edwin said this on an X (Twitter) Space event organised by Nairametrics entitled “Unlocking How Dangote Refinery Shapes Price”.

At the event, he discussed the progress of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, (petrol) production at the refinery.

Edwin revealed: “NNPC has informed us that they intend to station a team of 6 to 10 people permanently at our refinery.

“They’ve asked us to provide office space for them since they will be supplying the crude, overseeing the production, and buying back the products in Naira.”

Furthermore, Edwin noted that the discussions with NNPC are about a new model for crude supply where the refinery will buy crude from the government in Naira and sell PMS in the same currency, rather than in dollars, Nairametrics reported.

Edwin added: “We are still in talks with the government about receiving crude in Naira. The discussions are ongoing, and nothing has been finalised yet.

“Some unresolved issues include the pricing of crude, the pricing mechanism, and determining the appropriate exchange rate for the Naira.”


Dangote’s sacrifices

Edwin explained that Aliko Dangote had agreed to the Federal Government’s proposal to sell products from NNPC to the government in Naira, despite the likelihood of financial losses.

“Dangote said we are going to accept this because the country desperately needs foreign exchange, and the value of the Naira is deteriorating every day.


“I understand that I am going to take a loss because by the time we sell the product and convert it to dollars, the exchange rate may have worsened,” Edwin quoted Dangote to have said.

Dangote added: “I am willing to take this loss in the interest of the country. I don’t mind.

“The country is in bad shape. Someone has to take certain risks, and I am ready to face this loss, no matter how significant it may be.”

This is a good problem to have. It means Dangote is producing quality products at affordable prices.

Please dangote don't give them any single office, they are looking for a way to bring corruptions and create cabals in to your oil business.

Dangote make sure you search them every day as they are coming in and out of the refinery no mobile phone allowed any mobile phone on site must be monitored.

Nothing out of place with the demand.

But Dangote Refinery should ensure they monitor them 24/7, while they should also verifiy all the process quality at the refinery.

Office space to do what

This Dangote Refinery Saga just gives me clear insight into why Nigeria as a country for over donkey years has no functional refinery.

The Dangote Refinery is still centered around NNPC, meaning there won't be any changes in the cost of fuel.

Then why is nnpc supervising and monitoring dangote?

That space would become epicenter of corruption

..I still think the best solution is for nnpc to pay dangote for refiny cost extend to sell crude to him directly.

Pay refiny cost and sell to marketers. Why will dangote buy and sell back?

Why should they be monitored? Ordinary NNPC is undermining their power be taking office space in Dangote’s. NNPC is the industry regulator and should have their infrastructure and space. For example, providing NNPC staff internet is a security risk to NNPC.

For the umpteenth time, I reiterate that as long as Mele Kyari remains the GCEO of the NNPCL; The Tinubu Administration is only joking about fighting & tackling corruption.

Mele Kyari is a “Natural Born Bastard” that oversaw the collection of $1.5Billion for the Turn Around Maintenance of Refineries that are yet to produce a single drop of Petroleum Products in Nigeria.

Of course that's the standard practice anywhere there's fractional distillation going on. Also, custom officers will also demand for a space.

Haha how can government agency have a space in a private organization? There is more to this dangote refinery than we Nigerians know? Abi this dangote refinery is truly owned by many people while flaunting dangote as the owner

Of what use is the office space to them, with the way they are sabotaging the economy of this country, how I wish this is happening during Obasanjo regime, heads would have been rolling because i trust Baba Iyabo, the whole Management of NNPC would have been sacked.

NNPC are the thorns on Nigerians flesh. The one to extend their corrupt policy to a private business.

So many years of their control over PMS in the country, they couldn't fix even one refineries in the country.


Dangote should be careful before those people will bring down his refinery as it is very clear that they didn't want the refinery to function.

It's crazy, why can't NNPC get their own land at Ibeju-Lekki and build their own office.

Or they rent pending the time of getting their own office.

Why is it that NNPC is trying to Lord over Dangote if not for the shady deals.

It's becoming more clearer every day that Bigwigs within NNPC has been living large on our common wealth through crude sales, exportation, subsidy and so on.

Now that the subsidy regime is fading away gradually, they are diversifying towards local market by holding the neck of private investors for their selfish gains.

Dangote is desperate for crude so his refinery can work.

Nnpc offers him a deal...if you want us to continue to give you crude, then you give us control over what you produce.
