It Makes No Sense For NNPC To Sell Dangote Petrol Higher Than Imported One-IPMAN by Yourprick: 12:05pm On Sep 16
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) says it doesn’t make sense for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to sell petrol lifted from the Dangote Refinery higher than imported ones.

IPMAN National Welfare Officer, John Kekeocha, stated this on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief breakfast programme on Monday.

If NNPC can sell Dangote products higher than the imported products then it doesn’t make sense. What is the celebration we are having all these while then?” he queried.
The NNPCL began loading the first batch of petrol from the Dangote Refinery on Sunday, saying it got petrol at N898 per litre from the private refinery.

Before lifting petrol from the Dangote Refinery on Sunday, NNPCL retail outlets in Lagos sell petrol for around N855 but said a litre of Dangote petrol now sell for N950 per litre in Lagos and N1,019 in Borno.
However, Dangote Refinery denied selling petrol to the NNPCL at N898. A spokesman for the refinery Anthony Chiejina in a statement late Sunday described the claim by the NNPCL as “misleading and mischievous”.

“It should also be noted that we sold the products to NNPCL in dollars with a lot of savings against what they are currently importing. With this action, there will be petrol in every local government area of the country regardless of their remote nature,” Chiejina said.

NNPCL insisted that it got petrol from Dangote Refinery at N898 per litre and challenged the latter to release the price it sold petrol. The NNPCL further released a breakdown of pricing it sell Dangote petrol at its filling stations across the country.

Last December, Dangote, Africa’s leading industrialist, commenced operations at his $20bn facility sited in Lagos with 350,000 barrels a day.
The refinery, which was initially bogged by regulatory battles, hopes to achieve its full capacity of 650,000 barrels per day by the end of the year.

The refinery has begun the supply of diesel and aviation fuel to marketers in the country and now petrol.

Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, faces energy challenges, with all its state-owned refineries non-operational. The country is heavily reliant on imported refined petroleum products, with the state-run NNPC being the major importer of the essential commodities.

Fuel queues are commonplace in the country. Prices of petrol tripled since the removal of subsidy in May 2023, from around ₦200/litre to over ₦1000/litre, compounding the woes of the citizens who power their vehicles, and generating sets with petrol, no thanks to decades-long epileptic electricity supply.

If you think the total cost of imported fuel was less than 1500, then you are mistaken

Nnpc was paying subsidy on a low key, that was the reason fuel price was what it was

The new price of dangote is the true price without subsidy

It makes over five trillion naira sense.

That's how much it cost every year for NNPC/Nigeria to subsidise in order to keep petrol price at around N600.

And it was borrowed money that future generations will have to pay back.

Remove all petrol subsidy and let us pay the market price.

Mr Jonathan or Mr Buhari removed kerosene subsidy. People wailed that heavens will fall. It has not fallen.

Either Mr Buhari or maybe it was Mr Jonathan removed diesel subsidy. Businesses wailed that heavens will fall. Heaven hasn't.

If petrol subsidy is removed, and the country stops the bone-headed, stupid borrowing to pay for subsidy, it will be to the long term benefit of Nigeria. And heavens will still not fall.

Infact, I suspect heavens will smile and say, finally, sense got to these ones.

DANGOTE SHOULD FIX N450 PER LITER AS WHOLESALE PRICE AND N500 PER LITER AS RETAIL PRICE FOR PETROL.
A MARGIN OF N50 PER LITER IS ENOUGH DISCOUNT TO OPERATE WITHIN.

On this particular deal, it is difficult to see what NNPCL has done wrong.

They have negotiated to get the best price they can get from Dangote, and from the pricing information they published this morning, NNPC are not really profiting much from this deal.

If those greedy independent marketers have been allowed to buy directly from Dangote, they would have used their usual magomago to make sure we don't know how much they bought from Dangote, and they will sell for N1300 or N1400.

These same independent marketers that some of you people are now supporting are the same people that have jacked up the price of petrol to as much as N1100 or more over the past 3 months, even when NNPCL was selling at around N600.

They are also the ones who hide petrol in their filling stations to create artificial scarcity so they can extort vehicle owners with outrageous prices.

Any time they don't get their way, they threaten to go on strike.

NNPCL is not good, but I 100% prefer it to be in charge than independent marketers.

To back up.my point, has there ever been a time when NNPCL filling stations sell petrol at a price higher than independent filling stations. Never. NNPCL stations are always cheaper.

I hope NNPCL will continue to buy more and more filling stations so they are present in every corner of the country.

Exactly.

They have been an albatross around the neck of vehicle owners for years.

They hoard fuel.
They never disclose the true price they buy at.
If they don't get their way, they create artificial scarcity so they can sell at outrageous prices.

Nigerians have been at their mercy all these years.

The fact that any vehicle owner will side with them is unbelievable.

ÑNPC filling stations are always cheaper than them.

I support NNPC.

How will NNPCL ever be lower when they are the ones selling to marketers, and giving license to them all these while?

But that is the truth.

For about 3 years or so now, NNPCL was the sole importer because other companies that used to import a few years ago could no longer afford the financial cost.

So NNPCL would import and sell to independent marketers at around N560. NNPLC sold through its own filing stations at around N560 - N620 depending on how far a state is from Lagos.

However, by the time the petrol that independent marketers bought from NNPCL at below N560 reach independent retail outlets the price was around N760 - 790.

That's nearly N250 per litre more than the price NNPCL sold it to them.

Even NNPCL was confused. It couldn't understand the abracadabra of the independent marketers smiley

If NNPCL say anything, this powerful group would threaten to stop lifting oil, which would make the situation worse and send prices even higher.

So NNPC cannot win with them.

Even with NNPC being the sole off taker from Dangote, these powerful independent marketers will still find a way to manipulate the process to their advantage.

That is why the only long term solution is for NNPC to continue to buy up more filling stations to increase the number of stations it has.

This is a classic case of the hand of esau and the voice of jacob

NNPC in it self has no hand in this

What we should be asking is, who controls and owns NNPC, who is the minister of petroleum

Those people calling tilumbu for help are just funny

Imagine an evil spirit tormenting a soul and you cry to the devil for help

Until we get sense and act collectively, APC would press the neck our neck till the we have sense
