@ saga - lasu was rated best in law faculty in africa base on d competition, gbam, Though the team lost at Round 16, just before the quarter finals, LASULAWS was crowned “The Best Team in Africa” and “14th” in the world. The counsel made the university, Nigeria and Africa proud by beating their American, Asian and European counterparts. Kings College, London won the competition. The founder of the competition, Prof Martin Hunter, whose book on International Investment Arbitration is widely regarded in Europe as the “Bible” of this unique area of law, praised the LASU students. Remarkably, in the World Student Arbitrator Rankings, Geoffrey was listed 41st and Daniel, 78th out of 107 students. |

@Topic I'm proud LASU represented Nigeria and indeed Africa very well, kudos on that. But what just doesn't add up to me is how coming 34th out of 35 competitors add up to being 1st in Africa and 14th in the world except my be the Nation Newspapers meant to write 34th in the World and 1st in Africa, assuming there were no African Universities among those that came 1st to 33rd. |
Re: LASU Law Rated Best In Africa by Kobojunkie: 7:35pm On Dec 10, 2011 |
luvola: What has hate to do with your inability to see that the article you put so much faith in does not seem to connect to what is logical. 14th in the world yet they placed 34th in the competition the judgement was based on. Best in Africa yet no evidence that other schools in Nigeria, or even all of Africa, participated in the same competition. One would have to be desperately seeking attention for one to believe that theNation article says it all. |
Re: LASU Law Rated Best In Africa by emmatok(m): 9:02pm On Dec 10, 2011 |
This should be in the JOKE section. As usual those Politicians will hump at these news. For your info LASU Law faculty has Interim Accreditation statues . http://www.xsignia.com/LASU_Nigeria/deptDetails.php?ref=4.0.LAW |
Re: LASU Law Rated Best In Africa by luvola(m): 9:18pm On Dec 10, 2011 |
@ kobo - the writer of the article may have made some errors by rating it 7th in the world but be inform that 200 universities actually started the competition in which lasu opted out in the 2nd round of 16. i believe some univ in africa are among the 200 univ that started the competition but couldnt make it to the 2nd round of the remaining 16 which prompted the organiser to rate lasu law as the best in africa. hope u get the point |
Re: LASU Law Rated Best In Africa by luvola(m): 9:29pm On Dec 10, 2011 |

Re: LASU Law Rated Best In Africa by dmainboss: 12:54am On Dec 11, 2011 |
LASU law school is not even the best in Lagos not to talk of Nigeria. The Nation is nothing more than a tabloid. Only tabloids report falsehood. The Unilag Law faculty is far better than Lasu law faculty. Lasu law does not even have full accreditation not to talk of being Ranked. Edo state university Ekpoma has been the best law school for years. Ask those is reading law. UI, Uniben, Ilorin and Jos also have good law faculties. Lasu is a glorified secondary school. They dont even have a standard law library so they cant even be fully accredited let alone, rated. It is very wrong to rate a school academically based on a competition. It is never done anywhere. Rating college faculties is a scientific process. You have to consider infrastructure, academic tools, the level and performance of their graduating students for a given time period and many other indices. For your information, Only one Nigeria University, Unilorin appeared in a recent world ranking and it appeared around 5484th. To claim Lasu is 14th in the world is more than ridiculous. Nigerian universities cant even match Ghanian Universities not to talk of Universities in South Africa, Egypt, Tanzania, and many more. Please lets be truthful. |

Re: LASU Law Rated Best In Africa by dmainboss: 12:57am On Dec 11, 2011 |
luvola: LOL! How can LASU college of medicine be among the top five in Naija when they dont even have a standard teaching hospital. You are very funny. They use the states general hospital as their teaching hospital. Wonders shall never end. A good college of medicine should have a standard teaching hospital. |
Re: LASU Law Rated Best In Africa by dmainboss: 12:59am On Dec 11, 2011 |
gokuu: Actually, they have about 4 proffesors which is still a far cry from anything standard. See link below. By the way, their website is appalling. I dont mind to do it free for them. Its disgraceful for a university. http://www.xsignia.com/LASU_Nigeria/Staff2.php?ref=4 |

it is a glorified secondary yet two of its law students emerged the best oustanding graduating in the nig law sch 2month ago ? It is a glorified sec sch yet it rep nig in an international law competition last month ? Common sense |
Re: LASU Law Rated Best In Africa by dmainboss: 1:29am On Dec 11, 2011 |
International Law competition ke. Please dont make me laugh. It is like saying they are the best because they won a debating competition. A competition is just an event that schools participate in and has no bearing whatsoever in their rating as a school. It is usually a show of individual talent not a reflection of the standard of the school. see the link I posted above. A dilapidated secondary school can still win a competition. I attended a public primary school and won competitions against well organized private schools with high standards. Didn't make my school better than those. Same goes for their students being among the best graduating students in law school. A very intelligent boy can attend a public school just because his parents couldn't afford expensive private schools and if you put him in a competition with people from very good schools, he could still come out tops. But that in itself is not a yardstick to access or rate his entire school. |

For Alao, the rationale behind the annual routine of global ranking of universities in the world, are basically of two different dimensions to include effectiveness dimension and the efficiency dimension in performance to be considered by the rating body. The effectiveness dimension relates to the mapping between mission elements and institutional outputs while the efficiency dimension on the other hand, addresses the relationship between quantity value of inputs and quality value of outputs. According to him “ The Times Higher Education (THE), global ranking body which publishes its results annually, addresses the effectiveness vector which endows with five major components for university rankings which include: Teaching- 30 %, Research- 30 %, Citations Inf1uence of Research- 32.5 %, Industry Income Innovation- 2.5 % and International Mix- 5 %. Alao, dismissed statistics from those who based the rating of institution on the performance quality on the basis of the quality of the “best student” in the institution saying that such assertion contains more information about the individual student than about the system and the quality of the average in our system. “For an efficient institution, the larger the quantum of resources, the higher the effectiveness likely to be, he said. http://www.transparencyng.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3388:nigerian-universities-and-gloobal-ranking&catid=75:opinion&Itemid=151 |

luvola: This guy is so dumb it is shocking. He is thicker than an Eskimo's winter jacket. So only 200 universities entered and you felt it was a good basis to justify what is best in Africa? Fck me Lawd! How many universities are in Africa? So you think if only (lets even dash your dumb arse) 20 apply, that is a valid basis to judge the best? Fck Lawd! This kind of dumbness should not be legal. |

The problem is that we have some overzealous bigots who just love misleading people on this thread. Is it compulsory that people must show that they do not know how to read and understand Besides, must some folks be unnecessary insultive and sentimental |
