Crude oil is unlikely in this instance, it's likely due to the sediments of the borehole contaminated with some ferrous compounds. They may have to treat the water in the tank before use.

Lol... I experienced the same shiit in Bayelsa. I would fetch water from tap, leave it for like 30 minutes and before you know it, the colour changed to brown with traces of oil in the water. OP, there could be crude oil in your area

Our water storage/tank is well washed and super clean. We pump water into it and it’s all colorless, sparkling and clean as well. Upon boiling the water, it turns brown with chemical oils resting on the surface.

This is not good for my business purposes especially that requires boiling water. I don’t know 🤷🏽‍♀️ if it’s the pumping machine or the water itself that is the problem.

Yon can contact the geology company that drilled. They would have handy contacts for complaints like this. Definitely not a first time query for them.
