More abuse from some people who can't join 2 sentences together. It's just so sad. I appreciate other bros that took time to lay out their arguments carefully, and bro who did more research to confirm exactly what government and even LCC said on the matter. Even if we don't agree with ourselves, let's be civilized. Government's announcement confirmed the alternative route to bypass the first toll gate was already in place. It should therefore be clear that it is new alternative routes that they were talking about building. They have confirmed recently that they have constructed half of the new alternative route for the Chevron toll gate and that they are still to finish the remainder. The road is definitely there. I've driven on it. Go and check it for yourself. It is a new road. Government is not allowing LCC to collect tolls at the Chevron toll gate until the new alternative route is complete. I saw in today's newspaper that Lagos PPP office placed advert of a map of the alternative route at Oniru toll gate. I think it was ThisDay. Go and look at it for the clear directions. All this talk about driving through peoples backyard is exaggeration. I live in Lekki area so I know what the expressway was like before LCC started the work. People that tell you that the road was anything like it is today know that they are lying or have never been to that area. For someone to say that the expressway had no potholes before is amazing. A road that did not receive regular maintenance for 30 years and did not have proper drain systems could not possibly be in good shape especially with the many rainy seasons that would have passed over those years. Rain kills roads and creates potholes. Let's face it, the road was in very bad shape!!!! Crime has also reduced there. We don't hear much again about armed robbers hitting drivers in traffic. I will also continue to praise the incident services that LCC has brought especially because I have benefited from it and saved serious money from that. LCC say they have helped over 7,000 people. There has been a huge increase in new business and project development on that Lekki axis since LCC started the work, and anyone that owns land or property there knows that value has increased significantly. This means job creation for people and economic development for the area. The expressway is also going to support new mega projects in the area like Lekki FTZ, Lekki airport, Lekki deep sea port, Lekki refinery, etc, which means even more jobs and prosperity. We need more of this all over Lagos and Nigeria please.

To be sincere, we are being ruled by 'animals' and until you act contrarily you won't get positive response from them. Is FG not attending to BH issue today? Yesterday, they thought it was a joke. cheesy

the irony!
so if you set the damned thing on fire, you have not acted like an animal?

Eteks i am guessing you just moved to LEKKI recently thus your analysis. Those of us that lived there when it used to take 10minutes to drive from Mobil House to VGC know much better. The reason that road lasted is because of the quality of the road and the "fact that it did not get heavy use until the recent population explosion in lekki. There is even no point argueing. Check out the stretch of the road that LCC has not touched yet and tell me if it is not in good condition------abraham adesanya axis.
Potholes were rare on that road. The problem was TRAFFIC and still remains TRAFFIC. Compared to most roads in Lagos, it ranked in the top 3 prior to LCC.
You mention roberry and security. My guy you don goof for there. The area has always been one of the safest parts to live in Lagos. Anyone can confirm that. LCC has no influence on that.

You are obviously a JJC in that area. Without LCC the value of property woulda still continued to rise. Was it LCC that made land that was sold at VGC @ 3million skyrocket to 120million?
Did LCC bring the palms to that area? Did LCC bring LFTZ to the area? All these things are there and would have come without the LCC touchups so do not use them as a plus for paying tolls

I am going to give up on trying to get sensible answers from you at this time as it seems clear now you have no answers but are simply here to spew propaganda and nothing else. I have asked DIRECT AND PLAIN questions of you over and over, and instead, all I have gotten from you are non-answers and circular arguments. So, I choose to move to discussing this with people who at least know what they are talking of, and are able to respond appropriately to questions asked.

LIE!! What if I tell you that I am one of those that paid for that road in front of Orchid hotels that you are talking about. That road was constructed by the owners of Buena vista estate, ocean bay estates and chevron cooperative. Since, govt will not build roads for us, we sha will pool our money together and construct the road. For you now to take the road we constructed and deem it an alternative and charge us for the one that was existing and free before is doubly evil and God will punish all those wicked people cooking up these schemes.

LEKKI/ETI-OSA/EPE EXPRESSWAY
THE CASE AGAINST TOLLING AND FENCING

Fellow Lagosians, we cannot all fold our arms and watch the exploitation and slavery that is to be imposed upon us come December 18, 2011, by the Lagos State Government and its ally, Lekki Concession Company, through the forceful collection of toll fee on the Lekki/Eti-Osa Expressway.

Our demand is for a total cancellation of tolling and fencing on the road, for the following reasons.

1.       The Lekki/Eti-Osa Epe Expressway is an existing road. The original plan was for LCC to build the Coastal Road and toll it. It was abandoned because LCC discovered that it would not be profitable and thus it diverted to the existing expressway. This road was built by the administration of Alhaji Lateef Jakande around 1983 for the free movement of people and goods. LCC should go and build its own road for tolling.
2.       With the developments that have taken place in the Lekki axis, this road is now a METROPOLITAN ROAD, and cannot qualify for tolling.
3.       Lagos State Government has deployed its resources to build other roads in Bourdillon, Ikoyi, Bode Thomas, Western Avenue, Surulere, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Opebi Link Bridge, Ikota Link Bridge, Oregun Road, just to mention but a few. None of these roads is subject of tolling and fencing. Why single out the only access road in this area for tolling. It amounts to discrimination against the indigenes and residents. It must be resisted.
4.       Government has a statutory responsibility to provide basic infrastructure, such as road and should not leave the fate of millions of its citizens in the hands of greedy investors. Who owns LCC?
5.       There is presently no alternative road for those who may not be able to afford the toll fee being charged. Oniru Estate was approved by the Lagos State Government to the Oniru family as a PRIVATE ESTATE. Road and other infrastructure within a private estate cannot qualify as an alternative route. By the very contract signed between LCC and Lagos State, the alternative route is the Coastal Road and it must be completed before the commencement of tolling. This has not been done. Therefore, NO TOLL!
6.       It amounts to pure extortion to erect three toll plazas within a single local government. All the three toll plazas at Admiralty Circle plaza, Chevron/Ikota plaza and the Pan African University plaza are all within Eti-Osa Local Government. What is our offence?

7.       The cost of the toll is prohibitive and not affordable at all. At an average N200 per toll plaza, the average cost for a family is N54,000 per month and N648,000 per anum. For a government that cannot even pay N18,000 minimum wage monthly to its workers. How does it expect people to cough out N54,000 just for toll. The family will still pay for school fees, medical fees, run its generator, source its own water and provide its own security.
8.       Lagos State Government provided LCC with $42m (N6.3B) of tax payers money with which LCC jump started the project. Governor Babatunde Fashola recently revealed that Lagos State has paid additional N4B to LCC and the road is just about 10 kilometres completed. Why pay toll when our money is being spent on our road?
9.       The sluggishness of the road expansion project and the competence of the contractor are issues to be challenged. It took two years to expand the road from Falomo to Mobil Bridge, another two years from Mobil to Admiralty Way and now two years from Admiralty to Chevron. For a 49 kilometre road, it is doubtful if it can ever be completed. Why collect toll on an uncompleted project?
10.     Considering the huge resources generated by Lagos State from the Lekki/Eti-Osa, Ibeju and Epe axis, there should be more of government presence in these local governments by way of infrastructure. Presently, there is no major higher institution, no standard government hospital, no transport subsidy by way of BRT, no water scheme, no court rooms, no central market, NOTHING AT ALL? What then is the responsibility of government, when it has totally abandoned the people of the Lekki/Eti-Osa axis?
11.     The idea of fencing people out of their ancestral homes is alien to our culture and heritage. Fencing has killed and paralysed most businesses in the Lekki/Eti-Osa axis. As it is clear to us all now, the fences have all been contracted out for advertisement, some of them in motion pictures, jeopardising our very safety while driving on the road.
12.     There is a case in court against the tolling project. We are under a democratic system that guarantees respect for the rule of law. The governor of Lagos State is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. Lagos State and LCC should wait for the court to decide on the issue of tolling. We must respect the due process of law. Government cannot be provoking its own citizens to lawlessness, because if government cannot abide by the rule of law, how does it expect its citizens to comply?

OUR DEMANDS:

1.       We reject tolling in its entirety. If government must toll roads, let it start from Bourdillon Road in Ikoyi, in front of the residence of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in Bode Thomas Street, Surulere in the constituency of the Governor Fashola. Our money was used to build these roads.
2.       We reject fencing. Berlin Wall collapsed many decades ago. We cannot be turned to slaves and prisoners in our own environment.

ACTION:

Come out en masse on Saturday, December 17, 2011 for a protest march to the Admiralty Circle Toll Plaza and Chevron Toll Plaza. We will occupy it and remain there until the government agrees to cancel tolling and fencing.

The struggle continues, our victory is certain.

Pack of lies and empty threat from enemy of Progress. It seems you guys enjoy pot hole ridden roads in other part of lagos, For once lets have a model road that we all can refer to anyday!

My questions are very simple: Is there an alternative route for everyone who doesnt want to pay toll? Yes
Is the road accessible and passable/motorable? Yes
Will any resident associaition shut any gate at any time of the day preventing motorist from using the road? No
what the is the problem? I guess the anti-development people are at work!!!

More so Adegboruwa who is going from pillar to poll to rent a crowd for the protest is going to be joined by Bode George. Interesting, Ex-Convict and a Tax Evader leading a mass rally! Lwkmd

I have got my Toll gate "e-tag" have you got yours?
Re: Residents Warn Against Uncontrollable Chaos Over Lekki Tolling - SaharaReporters by 2AMLasgidi: 4:46pm On Dec 16, 2011
I have noticed a blackmailing trend on Nairaland which I consider very bad. That is, people want issues to be discussed from only one perspective.

If you for any reason have a contrary view to theirs you are either tagged as working for "the party" or you are sponsored by the party! Com'on I think we should grow up.

Some of us are feel it is important we do our research before coming here. We are here to add value to any discussion, learn and also "unlearn" in the process. That is why we are not joining in the use of abusive language.

More importantly, I am for Development, I am for anything that's good irrespective of where it is coming from. I support LCC tolling of Lekki-Ajah expressway just like I'll support Bi-Courtney tolling of Lagos Ibadan Expressway as long as there is improvemet in the infrastructure. Is PDP Govt of Jonah building another Lagos-Ibadan Express way? Are there alnative (seperate road built)? We pay toll virtually every other nation we visit in most case we don't know simply because we use cabs, these cabs do pay toll (electronically though) & pass it unto us.

I have registered my car (the only one for now) with LCC for my e-tag tolling payment. Automatically I got 10% discount! The more pass d toll plaza d less I pay. But for me, I'll my options, I don't hav to pay toll all da time If I'm going to Ligali Ayorinde from Lekki Phase 1, surely I'll use the alternative route!!!

Some great guys are here on Nairaland and Some are, No be for my mouth una go hear am!!!

Fashola media machine pumping huh?? See how the words dey roll as if na advertisement.

I see he got a lot more of his boys to register on Nairaland for this one campaign!! Na wa oo!

There's absolutely nothing wrong with anyone promoting their view. We all have to take a position on what we believe in after all. That some people then choose to abuse you because your view is different to theirs, however, is what I argue has no place in a civilized society. I have lived in Lekki for over 10 years and therefore feel that I know enough about the area, and particularly about what has happend in the last 4 years or so while the expressway has been under redevelopment. Our bro is correct when he says that the road around Abraham Adesanya Estate area was good. That is not a surprise as that area was fairly rural back in the days, and therefore there was not much traffic there to wear down the road. The VI side of the expressway, however, is where the main traffic is, especially because of the growth that started from there. With the huge development on the axis, and all the new estates that are being built towards the east end, including up to Ajah, traffic steadily increased in those areas, and put greater pressure on the road. That is why the road, with no regular maintenance being performed on it, deteriorated into the bad condition that LCC met it in. Wait and see what would have happened around Abraham Adesanya area in a few years time if nothing was done now to ensure that maintenance and upgrade is available. We need to plan for the future conditions and not stay fixed in the past because we want to prove a point. The Palms was definitely built before the work by LCC. I'm sure though that when the owners were deciding whether to put the shopping mall in Lekki, they considered that government had planned to upgrade the expressway. If there was no plan to ensure a befitting road for people to be able reach the Palms, I doubt that they would have invested there. VGC and other property prices have increased a lot because people want to move to the area. It is about demand and supply. There was a time when people were migrating away from the area because of very bad traffic. What do you think would have happened to VGC and other prices if everyone left? The expressway being redeveloped has been a big reason why people have not only remained in the area but also that new people are flocking here now. Let's not be deceived. Talking about crime, one of the worst experiences I had in life was witnessing a mother who heard the news for the first time that her son had been shot by armed robbers around Ikate area. The boy was supposed to return back to school in the UK that week but instead met his untimely death by bullet. I also know of several people who were robbed on Ozumba Mbadiwe, and other parts of the expressway. Now we are being told by some people that there is no crime? Stop hiding from the truth. For my bro that claims I have not responded to his questions and therefore does not want to bother engaging with me, I am happy with that. Those that want to are welcome. Enjoy your weekend.

The following was posted in December 2010, on this thread: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-572287.0.html

jacobs123:

LEKKI-EPE WAY TOLLING: THE BIG FRAUD

I have come to the conclusion that politics are too serious a matter to be left to the politicians.
--- Charles De Gaulle (1890 - 1970)

The people of Eti-Osa especially those that live around the Lekki-Epe way are finding out the hard way what Charles De Gaulle found out several years ago that politics is too serious a matter to be left to the politicians. When the whole idea of expanding the Lekki-Epe way, most people believed it was just another democracy dividend, the reward of having Action Congress (believed to be the modern day Awosits) in power especially given the woeful performance of the PDP Governors across several states. Many people including myself did not bother to find out the terms of the expansion especially since it was proposed as a public private partnership (a relatively new concept in this clime). Many people found out very late that and understandably so that the existing road will be expanded and tolled and shockingly at three different points in a residential area and within the same local government and a distance of less than 24km between first and third toll points (This must be a first in the world).
A lot of things have been written and said about this road expansion but I will only concern myself with reasons why this project must be considered for what it is exactly – a monumental fraud - and why citizens must rise up to ensure that tolling is not successfully done.

Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.
--- Aldous Huxley (1894 - 1963), "Proper Studies", 1927

There are several facts about this Lekki road expansion that many people are not aware of or even seem to ignore out rightly.

1. Even though the road has been concessioned, the Lagos state government (LASG) has actually committed N5 billion ($42 million) of tax payers to the project and this facts sits pretty on the website of Standard bank and Mr. Fashola said that much in one of his investor road shows in the city of Dubai.

http://corporateandinvestment.standardbank.co.za/sa/news_centre/news_centre.jsp?from=recent&mediaid=313

http://www.lagosstate.gov.ng/index.php?page=speechdetail&spid=324&mnu=governor

2. The Lekki-Epe way is about the only visible sign of government presence in the area which is dominated by private sector investment in roads, schools, hospitals, provision of water etc.
3. There are many residents of this area who pay over N3 million in income tax alone year and are being denied the very minimum of having a free road to their house.
4. Contrary to the expectations of most people, the road will only be expanded for a distance of less than 25 Km. The concessionaire (LCC) is only required to provide median for the remaining 24 km which really defeats the notion that the road is being done to prepare for the expected Megacity traffic from the Lekki Free trade zone.
5. LCC has a non-competing clause agreement which essentially means that LASG cannot provide an alternative means of transport (water or rail) for the people of Eti-Osa save the Coastal Road for the next 30 years even though they are supposed to pay their tax dutifully.
6. The Lekki road is being constructed by an incompetent contractor (Hitech) and has spent over 4 years doing less than 20% of the work.
7. The Governor set up a committee to examine the issues in dispute that led to the August Protest and while the team was still at work; LCC proceeded to accelerate the pace of work at the Chevron toll even while it was being recommended for demolition.
8. LCC plans to commence tolling on 3rd January, 2011 even though the average peak period travel time from Ajah to Victoria Island is over 3 hrs compared to less than 1 hr before the Lekki expansion commenced.
9. The Lekki-Epe way is not an expressway as it has posted speed limit of 60 km/hr even in the completed section
10. The Lekki road project is the most audacious fraud a Government can commit against its own people, the most flagrant disregard of tax payers and exploitation of the citizens.

Nobody can give you freedom. Nobody can give you equality or justice or anything. If you're a man, you take it.
--- Malcolm X (1925 - 1965), Malcolm X Speaks, 1965

The Lekki-Epe way residents have a good opportunity for mass mobilization given that there are many estates with organised resident associations along the road and the indigenes have already demonstrated their unity of purpose during the great Lekki protest of August.
Many residents, workers and indigenes in the Lekki area are opposed to the idea of tolling, even though there are some who think that one toll plaza should be just fine but there has not been an opportunity for them to voice out their opinion and even the hugely successful Lekki protest of August took many by surprise especially the 8-4 workers (5am – 9pm in the case of Lekki). There are also those who believe that the toll amount is the most important thing as long as it is affordable.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
--- Martin Luther King Jr. (1929 - 1968), Letter from Birmingham Jail, April 16, 1963

The Lekki toll fraud is the first in the state and many Lagosians cannot be bothered because they have no business in the Lekki area and view the area as a rich area and this has worked well in LASG’s favour but the lesson of history is clear – this will be the first of many more.

Power never takes a back step - only in the face of more power.
--- Malcolm X (1925 - 1965), Malcolm X Speaks, 1965

It is clear that LCC and LASG are determined to go ahead with the toll plan except there is a determined resistance from the stakeholders and I will outline a few of what can still be done.
1. All stakeholders (Resident estates, Workers union, Local communities) should come together to outline where they stand on the issue of tolling and take every necessary step to ensure that the people are respected.

2. It is very important to ensure that tolling does not commence on 3rd January, 2011.

3. Every eligible person should get registered in preparation for the forthcoming elections and make it a duty ensure that no member of this present LAGOS state House of Assembly returns to the house except they promise to pass the Freedom of information bill in Lagos and ensure transparency in the government of Lagos. I have only refrained from asking that Mr. Fashola be voted out because I’m yet to see a better opposition candidate (they probably do exist) and clearly do not regard the PDP as a party to be trusted.

4. The Lekki toll is not the right opportunity to show one’s class or level of affluence in the society as LCC plans through the SWIFT and e-Tag toll classification. If you really work hard for your money, the duty you owe LASG is to pay your tax and they owe you the provision of basic infrastructure including a free road to your house.

5. A press conference is planned for Wednesday 22nd December, 2010 and next steps would be announced. The only reason LCC and Fashola have succeeded thus far is because we’ve been docile and now is the time to put our money where our mouth is. The tolling has been perfectly planned for the holiday period when many people are expected to have travelled and opposition will be weak.

Why now? Why not now?
--- Lekki Residents, Resolution 2010

Many people ask if it’s not too late to resist the tolling and why now when so much has been spent and my response is basically given above.
1. While it may appear a bit late, it is still very timely because our success will send a strong message to corrupt politicians and greedy bankers to take their stakeholders seriously. The banks in this case recognise that this a very risky financing project as it is a clear case of enslaving the people which is why they had to get LASG to commit N5 billion and also ensure 1500 hectares of prime land is deposited as collateral. The bankers are business men and will do anything that gives them more money except people react appropriately.
2. This is an election period and there is no better time to get our elected officials to listen to us than now.
3. The whole transaction has been shrouded in secrecy with active collaboration from the House of Assembly and if we don’t help ourselves now, we’ve lost it.
4. People ask if LCC does not deserve credit for the “good work” they’ve done so far and my simple response is always a question - if you pay your tax, do you deserve a good road to your house or what did the residents of Bourdillon in Ikoyi do to deserve a good road to their house?
5. There are rumours that the project cost is N50 billion for expansion of 25 km of the road and provision of median for another 25 km which gives an average of N1 billion per kilometre, more than 3 times the FG benchmark of N320 million per kilometre for a new road.
6. The ACN with total domination of the House of Assembly and Local Governments and has yet to show any sign of transparency in its affairs. Mr. Fashola has always avoided telling us the cost of any road project.
7. There is no alternative to the toll road at the moment. The much touted Oniru bypass cannot be an alternative because it’s been built well in advance of the tolling and even makes our journey more tortuous than what we had before.
8. Lekki tolling is the start of a new method of slavery and needs to be nipped in the bud right now.

Action, not mere words, stopped the tolling then, but stronger, more sustained action will be required this time. People are in this for the long haul. We're looking at around 6 weeks initial occupation of the toll plaza, and money has been raised for this effort. Join us at the Prison Gate at Admiralty Circle, opposite Bola Tinubu's Oriental Hotel, as we begin the occupation of the last bastion of slavery. Be strong, and steadfast. There was a 3 month strike against Abacha's government in this same Nigeria. It made him unpopular in the long run, and his death became a welcome solution in the end. Those the gods want to destroy, they first make mad. It is clear that Tinubu, Fashola and all their lackeys are far gone on the road of insanity. Their destruction is all that is left. We must help hurry them to that destination, as they clearly are suicidal.

It is so suprising how desperate people can be all because they just want to stiffle development in Lagos for their paymaster. How will anyone say that the ROAD under scrutiny is the only development project going on the Lekki-Ajah axis of the Lagos! habah, find something to wipe your lying mouth! If there are no visible government presence why then does the price of property in the area keep appreciating? This is betraying the fact that most people passing comming do not live in this axis. I am aware that Government presence is very visible in the axis. Everybody knows that The Lekki Free Trade Zone is in our community (It is not called Magodo Free Trade Zone -where you stay)

i. There is a Merternity & Child Center nearing completion at Sangotedo; this is a 110 bed Health facility
ii. Deployment of fifty (50) mass transit buses since May 2011.
iii. A lot of work going on in so many Schools (Primary & Secondary) in the Area.

Property keep appreciating yet you deny Government infrastructure. Go into Lekki Phase 1, from Durosinmi Eti drive you will see work in progress everyday. The Toll Plaza is will not kill development in the area I believe. On this road you get fantastic security services, Emergency Rescue Operation, Free Towing Services (irrespective of whether you paid toll or you used alternative routes).

Funny enough, the rent a crowd protest will only open peoplesthe of the rented crowd from agege to the fact that such a road is possible in Lagos compared to what they used to where are coming from. Lets ask ourselves, How do you feel when you drive on Lekki-Epe expressway compared to how it feels on Oba Akran in Ikeja.

@Kobokunje or what is your name: I am not a fashola machine for your information!!! I am a development machine and if today, fashola represent that I will not only give him a pat on the back, I can see you are a regular commentator on nairaland, though full of abuses and yabs no meaniful contribution.

For your info I have been following nairaland for years I only decided when I should join and I dont have to log in to know whats going on. Go and check my history on Nairaland you will know my mindset. You cant stay away from your fatherland and be throwing stones inside. I know how much bills you pay for virtually everything including toll everyday of your miserable life out there,

I have some jobs for you in naija when you make up your mind to return ok? You can forward your CV, another landmark building been commisioned by fashola in ikeja it is called Ikeja City Mall. Shoprite will need Cashiers grin grin grin

and for your information you dont have to pay toll as announced by LCC and Govt just use the alternative route ok?

Bro The One, the only person lying here is you, or maybe I should say mistaken, since I want to believe that you truly misunderstood which road I was talking about. I am not talking about the road in front of Orchid Hotel as you seem to think. Far from that. I am talking about the new road constructed parallel to the expressway and running behind the toll gate on the Chevron and Scintilla side. If you are coming from Igbo-efon direction and turn left at Chevron roundabout, follow Chevron Drive past Chevron and then make the first right. You will see a completely new road there of about 1.5km. It takes you behind Chevron and the toll gate, passes through Poroku village, and stops near Scintilla events centre. I know for sure that villagers did not build that road themselves. Someone I know in the state Ministry of Works confirmed to me that the road was paid for by government. He also reconfirmed that government plans to extend the road to join the expressway after Eleganza so it will serve as a alternative route to avoid the Chevron toll gate. These are the facts. For my bro djustice who wants everyone to go and create mayhem, fire and brimstone in Lekki in the name of political protest, please remember your own words of caution: "Those the gods want to destroy, they first make mad". I hope the gods have not touched you already, given the serious negativity coming from you. There is nothing wrong with protest, after all we are in a democracy. Please just keep it peaceful and law-abiding. We hear rumours that boys have been rented by the politicians to come from the mainland and other areas outside Lekki, to create mayhem in our neighbourhood. djustice seems to confirm this when he says that "money has been raised for this effort". When they go back to their neighbourhoods afterwards, we that live in Lekki will be left with their mess. Bros that choose to follow djustice's call to protest, please make sure that if you do, that you are not being misled and made the pawn in someone else's game. The chances are that you are!

Re: Residents Warn Against Uncontrollable Chaos Over Lekki Tolling - SaharaReporters by TheOne2(m): 7:09am On Dec 17, 2011
Bro Eteks, that road is not their proposed alternative. That road was constructed because LCC is fencing off all those with houses around scintilla. Abi you go say you no see everywhere fenced off there? Where will the road open to? And you think Chevron will agree for LCC to divert all that traffic to the road it constructed?
Also which primary and second schools are you talking about? Can you name them? Can you also name the functioning govt hospitals in the area?

I know that the following has been worked upon in the last few months;
About 18 classrooms at Victoria Island Secondary School, Eti-Osa; has been been renovated, go to sangotedo and ask if 6 classrooms block with 9 Toilets at Eti-Osa Community High School has not been constructed. The same applies to 12 classrooms block with 13 cubicle toilets at Okun-Ajah Community Secondary School, Eti-Osa. The fact remains that Lagos is working, but the politicians fighting for the soul of Lagos will not allow you to see the works going on. On issues like this why not use google to visit the lagos state or PPP website to these info and the take a drive or if you like enter danfo but BRT (Lagbus) will be good for you to do your On-the-Spot assesment and verify the claims. I have done that, please you too should do it,

As much as I know a lot still need be done especially in Alimoso area of lagos, we must march on towards achieving a better Lagos. I hope the rented crowd from Agege and Mushin by Bode George and Obanikoro (simply his son lost in the 2 last elections) who are bent on causing problems for us in Lekki due to their myopic sense of reasoning using Ebun Olu Adegboruwa (a tax evader) to mobilize people against a development project in Lagos.

The way you mention the number of classrooms and cubicles only continues to assure me that you are either a politician or at least someone who works with/is part of the current Lagos state government.
Only politiicians say things like we built 18classrooms blah blha . It's like the way "akatas" brag about taking care of their kids as if thats not their responsibility.
I believe i speak for everyone when i say we all want development. No one is against development. The problem arises when one person(s) tries to cheat/take advantage of other people.

Don't you think a responsible government in conjunction with LCC should have done more than just saying there is an alternative route. How about LCC creating a video with cars passing the altertante route and putting it on their website or on the news so the level of secrecy in this project can be reduced. Why do they have to wait for the people to protest.
The only thing that saddens me about the whole situation is that people like Bode George have used it as a political stunt. People are genuinely not happy that they are being ripped off.
By the way, unless things have changed, when did LAGBUS start plying the lekki-ajah route. I know they run V.I(zenith bus stop) to cms and so on but definitely not the lekki epe axis

@ PhuckNL: I couldn't agree more: Lagos State government has done a poor job with respect to informing and seeking the views of Lekki residents about this project. When Admiralty Circle Plaza was being built, I spoke with quite a few Lekki residents who thought that it was a bridge connecting Lekki and Ikoyi. That's when I knew that the project was in trouble. Government has also been silent on the mass transit component. Will BRT fares rise? When will the (green) rail line be completed?
Re: Residents Warn Against Uncontrollable Chaos Over Lekki Tolling - SaharaReporters by TheOne2(m): 11:35am On Dec 17, 2011
Reporting live from the protest. We had a peaceful protest ACN sponsored thugs showed up with matchetes ans sticks and started attacking the protesters. We resisted and that was when the battalions of MOPOL started beating people and firing tear gas at us. We strategically retreated into Lekki phase one and locked the gates and they again charged at us with tear gas. At the same time they provided protection to the ACN thugs at the roundabout displaying banners that read "NURTW supports tolling". One image I will never forget is that of a ten year old looking girl raining curses on Fashola and his goons for the way they came to brutalize us. This is how it started in North Africa, if he thinks he can cow the populace with force then he is mistaken!
Re: Residents Warn Against Uncontrollable Chaos Over Lekki Tolling - SaharaReporters by 2AMLasgidi: 1:30pm On Dec 17, 2011
@TheONE: That's a lie!!! It is shameful that people like you have access to the www or the cyber space only to be spreading ruomurs and lies.

I was at the place here are the pictures to buttress my points. The first one was taken at about 9:40am when they orderly and fully on ground peacefully. I think they got frustrated that having been there since 8.30am or so they couldn’t get even 2,000 people not to talk of 10,000 to occupy the road.

How many were they very scanty actually. The police did not in any way molest them until the protesters started to force motorist to join them as usual of Nigerian protesters. (Must I join U if I don't believe in your cause) That was when the police intervened to make them conduct themselves peacefully. A protester moved forward to slap a policeman in d process for daring to ask them not to molest innocent citizens. This you can confirm from Simon Orukpe of Nigeria Info 99.30 he even reported it live on their station.‎it was then the police used tear gas canister

The second pix here shows how they went to block the toll gate (why)

I didn't see any ACN thugs throughout. We are in a technology age let them post the picture of where the thugs started d crisis, You can imagine so called people defending the masses blocking same masses from free movement. If the campaign is popular you will not need to force people to join you. These blocked the toll gate preventing us from moving/using d road. This is not civil at all.

It's not by force to use the road. There is an alternate route. People too like wahala sef!
Re: Residents Warn Against Uncontrollable Chaos Over Lekki Tolling - SaharaReporters by 2AMLasgidi: 2:01pm On Dec 17, 2011
@Phuck NL: I share your sentiment on LCC not doing enough of publicity on the alternative route it is surely a bad PR for LCC & Lagos state Govt to have kept people in the dark till the last minute. to me this is a Fire Brigade approach and they deserve some knock on their head angry angry angry

Let me inform you after the Protesters forced the police to disperse them (because they were forcing other motorists to join their rank having failed to get 2,000 people out of 10,000 target) everyone was forced to use the ALTERNATIVE ROUTE which they claim does not exist. I ran too of course grin grin grin if na you, you go stay either for or against.

I did not spend more than 15 minutes to come out at Four point in the midst of the pandemonium, If I could spend only 15 minutes in such a situation; how on earth will anybody say that is not an alternative for a good day drive time.

As for BRT, I know they have been on that route since may 2011. Infact from Oshodi you can join LAGBUS to AJAH straight at N200. same applies to CMS, Obalende to Ajah. Danfo drivers will do harm to themselves if they increase fares because of less than N70 they are meant to pay as toll in the long run being a frequent user of the road people will naturally migrate to LAGBUS they should go and ask the Cele to Ikotun Egbe Danfo people
