October 3, 2024, marked a significant day for the students of Remo Secondary School (RSS) Sagamu in Ogun State, as the Ogun Twitter Community conducted its second yearly outreach program. This impactful event, held as part of the Community's Week Day 4 activities, aimed to promote personal hygiene, grooming, and awareness about puberty among students. The outreach program featured interactive sessions with youth speakers, who addressed critical aspects of adolescent development. Maryam Ettu, a final year student of Department of Nursing Science, Olabisi Onabanjo University, emphasized the importance of overall personal hygiene, highlighting essential practices for maintaining good health and boosting self confidence. Falilat Akanni, a final year student of Department of Nursing Science, Olabisi Onabanjo University, delved into the complexities of puberty, providing valuable insights and guidance for navigating this pivotal phase. Sekinat Bisiriyu, an advocate of good health, demonstrated the proper use of sanitary pads and shaving sticks, promoting good menstrual hygiene and puberty hygiene in boys. In addition to the enlightening sessions, the Ogun Twitter Community distributed vital hygiene materials, including sanitary pads/towels, shaving sticks, snacks, and educational resources. These materials will support students in maintaining good hygiene practices, bolstering their self-esteem and overall well-being. The Ogun Twitter Community's commitment to empowering young minds and fostering a healthier, more confident student body was evident throughout the event. "We're dedicated to making a positive difference in our community," said Abati Isaiah, Ogun Twitter Community Week Committee Lead. "By educating and empowering students, we're investing in a brighter future for Ogun State." Student participants expressed gratitude for the valuable lessons and resources. "I learned so much about taking care of myself," said Adejoke. "Thank you, Ogun Twitter Community, for caring about our well-being." Olamide added, "This outreach has inspired me to prioritize my health. I'm grateful for the experience." The Ogun Twitter Community's outreach program reflects its focus on promoting health awareness and education, supporting adolescent development, and encouraging community engagement and social responsibility.
