Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo @BTOofficial

Beloved Nigerians,

In fulfillment of our promise to deploy a contactless solution for biometric capture, I am pleased to announce that this vision has finally become a reality.

Yesterday, I hosted a cross-section of stakeholders – including top government officials, civil society organizations, media representatives, and tech experts – to preview the @nigimmigration's innovative contactless biometric capture passport application.

This cutting-edge technology enhances the passport acquisition process by allowing eligible applicants to initiate and complete their applications seamlessly from the comfort of their homes or workplaces on their mobile devices. The new feature is undoubtedly a game-changer, and we are eager to fully roll it out in our new passport regime. Our goal remains to transform our systems and methods to align with global best practices, setting the pace for other nations to follow without compromising national security.

After previewing this solution with these stakeholders, we will incorporate their feedback to refine the system. In the coming days, we plan to first launch this service for Nigerians in the diaspora.

As a nation, we are setting new records, and it brings me great joy to see @officialABAT's efforts bear fruit.

I would also like to thank all the stakeholders who made history with us yesterday, including @DrJoeAbah; the representative of the DG, NiDCOM, Dr. @abikedabiri; the representative of (@UNmigration), Emiola Joy; Gbenga Aruleba; @seunokin; Soni Daniel; Victor Azu; Salihu Tanko Yakasai (@dawisu); Oluwaseyi Ayeni; @otegaogra; Dr. Segun Awosanya (@segalink); Dr. @PaulAlaje; Engr. @omotayoakeem; Rotimi Akinniyi; Precious Ogbuenyi; Jesupemi Are; @icpcnigeria representative, Dr. Awogbemi Olanrewaju; and @officialEFCC representative, Mr. Clement Okoh.

Together, we are making history, and I look forward to what we will achieve in the days ahead.

Dr Joe Abah, OON @DrJoeAbah

I was privileged to be at the test run of the contactless passport application system by @BTOofficial & @nigimmigration today. When ready, over 18s RENEWING passports can capture their biometrics themselves at home. Passport delivered to your home! 👏🏽👏🏽

Yesterday, I had the privilege of joining a select group of stakeholders, including my brothers @DrJoeAbah and @otegaogra, at an exclusive event hosted by the Honorable Minister of Interior @BTOofficial and the Comptroller General of @nigimmigration. We previewed the innovative contactless biometric capture application process for passport renewal.

Initially, I had several questions: How would the app capture fingerprints? How smooth would the process be? Most importantly, how secure would it be? However, by the end of the presentation, all my concerns were addressed. The application process proved efficient, fast, and remarkably user-friendly.

For Nigerians above 18 years old with expired international passports and no data changes, this app revolutionizes passport renewal. You can now apply from the comfort of your home using your mobile phone or laptop, eliminating the need for biometric capture at immigration offices. This innovation is particularly beneficial for Nigerians abroad, who previously had to travel long distances to embassies, incurring significant time and financial costs.

The app allows you to fill out the application form and upload the required documents, pay applicable fees, verify your National Identification Number (NIN) and then wait for application vetting, and approval

Once approved, your passport will be processed without requiring physical presence for biometrics unless it's a fresh application.

I was also impressed by the optional courier delivery service (for a fee), saving time and effort.

Beyond passport services, I discovered the Ministry of Interior's expansive responsibilities. Notably, they've established Nigeria's largest data center, surpassing that of Galaxy. Additionally, their efforts in border control and migration management are commendable.

The Ministry's achievements within one year are remarkable:

- Enhanced border security measures
- Improved data infrastructure
- Streamlined passport renewal process

Thank you, Honorable Minister @BTOofficial, for the invitation. Your dedication to innovation and citizen convenience is truly appreciated. Keep up the excellent work!

SEGA L'éveilleur® @segalink

Mr President @officialABAT, Honorable Minister Dr @BTOofficial, the CGIS of the @nigimmigration Mrs Kemi Nandap and Distinguished core stakeholders.

I write to express my sincere appreciation for the remarkable progress and improvements witnessed within the Nigeria Immigration Service, exemplifying your unwavering commitment to excellence. The earlier engagement after my expression of disagreement on policy direction provided an invaluable platform for voicing concerns and fostering constructive dialogue, which has undoubtedly contributed to the unprecedented advancements we now celebrate.

At the beginning of the year, we raised a plethora of concerns that demanded immediate attention and decisive action. It is with great pleasure that I commend the prompt and comprehensive response to these concerns, not only addressing the core issues but exceeding expectations through innovative solutions and proactive measures.

The consistent improvement in the immigration service is a testament to your leadership, vision, and dedication to serving the nation's best interests. By actively involving stakeholders in the decision-making process and seeking their input before launching policies publicly, you have demonstrated a genuine commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance.

Your willingness to challenge traditional methods and embrace change has yielded remarkable results, streamlining processes, enhancing service delivery, and fostering a more efficient and citizen-centric immigration system and by extension a common ground in homeland security governance. This collaborative approach has not only addressed immediate concerns but has also laid the foundation for long-term sustainability and continuous improvement.

On behalf of @SIAF_NG, I extend our heartfelt gratitude for your exemplary leadership and unwavering dedication to excellence. Your actions have inspired confidence in the immigration service and reinforced our belief in the government's ability to respond to the needs of its citizens effectively. The innovative value added service presented today will go a long way to make a believer of Nigerians across the globe and maintain our leadership in the adoption of technology in our immigration processes. I’m glad we are ahead of America in adopting this.

It was a great pleasure to meet physically one of our elders in the Nation Building and specifically institutional reforms sector @DrJoeAbah who has remained an inspiration to us all, reputable cyber security experts from the @officialEFCC, @icpcnigeria, reputable veterans from the fourth estate of the realm across digital and print media. Saw my brother @seunokin again today, Dr @Ekitiketekan and several other notable great minds in our complex society.

We look forward to continued collaboration and partnership, working together to build a stronger and more prosperous nation. Your commitment to excellence is truly commendable, and we remain steadfast in our support as we collectively strive towards greater heights. 🇳🇬

Good one. This is highly commendable.

This Bunmi Tunji-Ojo is the only minister in this useless government that’ is showing workings and actually doing the talks. So unfortunate he has to work under this cluesless administration.

The only achievement of this mediocre minister is in the passport section. Doesn't his responsibilities extend to the prisons, customs and civil defense organizations? How come he's always fixated on immigration, or is he telling Nigerians that the government wants us to flee the country? What a slowpoke

The real message hidden in this mashup of words is this:

"we are eager to fully roll it out in our new passport regime."

It hasn't yet been confirmed to be the game-changer they claim it is. You expect them to have learnt from previous alerts like this that ended up in smoke. No. Rather, it seems from the list of those invited to this demonstration, they're more interested in social media mileage than actually changing the game.

With this government, we're like the biblical Thomas. We only believe when we see.

The minister should tell Nigerians he's not aware that even the website for Nigerians to apply for passport is not working.

Somehow, the website developer has been bribed to put a bug on the website to ensure it keeps rejecting every passport uploaded on the website, thereby making it impossible to apply for the passport online.

Is he not aware and isn't it yet time to fix the problem or they want Nigerians to keep going to their office to have contact with Nigerian immigration officials who will as usual demand for bribe?

Nigerians love to celebrate mediocrity and this minister is not an exception. It's in their nature to always celebrate mediocre and backward achievements
